Some think that the OT shouldn't even be read. It doesn't apply to us anymore, that was for the old time Jews, the Lord released us from the Law, it's just a history book...and so forth.

Wrong! God never changes, so anything that He says in the OT is just as applicable today as it was then. Also, the OT IS the NT concealed...and the NT IS the OT revealed. The more I read the OT, the more I see Jesus. He's on almost every page, look for Him!

Types and shadows, that's what it is. The animal skin that the Lord made for Adam and Eve was a covering for their sin, representing the innermost layer of the bridal gown. The brass serpent that Moses had them make so that anyone who got bit by a snake, if they looked at the brazen serpent, they would live. John 3:14-15...

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life./

Bitten by evil perhaps? Look unto our Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt live.

It's like that all through the OT. Jesus is on almost every page if you look for Him.
The OT is very important brothers and sisters. What are some types and shadows that you have seen in the OT?

God is perfect, He cannot become imperfect.
However, it is very obvious He has changed many things, including you and me.
You have actually named a few things He changed.
If we really believe what the OT says, sometimes He even changes His mind. :)

He sure does. And then in the NT it tells us, the prayers of a righteous man availath much. There's a lot of, if you do this, I will do that, in the OT. We should consider that He deals with us in the exactly the same way today. And in fact, because of the state of the world nowadays...his grace and mercy have probably been increased. Or no one would get saved nowadays. Nevertheless, obedience is more important than ever. Diligence and a passion for pursuing God.

If you seek Me, you WILL find me, He said.

Hebrews 13....(NKJV)
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The Old is just as relevant as the New. They complement one another.

Although I do admit that a majority of my reading is in the New Testament.

Exactly. I look for Jesus in the OT. He's there, all over the place. I'm almost done reading the OT from front to back. I spaced it out over a year. I'm in Jeremiah right now and will finish dec 31st. Then I will begin the NT again.

Nothing wrong with reading the NT more. This is vital. To study Jesus's life so that we can emulate Him. My point is merely to not neglect the OT, or to fail to look for Jesus in the OT. Some do neglect the OT, but shouldn't. I used to.

For excitement and adventure, it's hard to beat the old testament.

Rapes, murders, thefts.....it's a blast!
Don't forget the fat guy getting stabbed in the belly out in the port-a-john, and his blubber folding over, and swallowing the hilt of the knife.

Or the cat (David's son?) yanked off his chariot when his hair got caught in tree branches.

And I dig all the snakes and fire.

I love all of the big time miracles back then. Parting seas and raining food down from heaven, people bestowed with the power to rain down fire or make it not rain for a long time by their word. Birds bringing people food, people being taken away physically by the Spirit. Wow. I think that these things will be (are?) happening again in these days for people. Like was said already, God doesn't change. This is how He rolls, with power and love for His people.

Praise the Lord! :cross

That was Jesus doing these things for people back then, or the Spirit. And Jesus told His disciples (not just the disciples) that they would do all that He does and more, through Him. I get the impression that some brothers and sisters here do not believe to that level, and that's sad because that's denying the power of God and perhaps an inhibitor to letting His power flow through them and allowing these things to be done on earth, and the resulting Glory to God because of it.

If you find yourself with your back against the wall, look up brothers and sisters, and trust.

1 Corinthians 10
1 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,
2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
3 all ate the same spiritual food,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

One of the reasons John Wimber began our denomination is because he went to a church as a new believer, and saw nothing.

He asked one of the "officials" when the "stuff" happened? The man asked "What stuff?" and he said,

"You know, the healing and the miracles.... all the stuff that happened in the Bible.

He was told, "Oh, we BELIEVE all that stuff, but we don't actually DO any of it."

John said, "I gave up drugs and my career in Rock n' Roll for this, and I don't get to DO any of it??????"

Thus began the Vineyard, where the motto is, "Everyone gets to play!" No one has to sit on the bench.

Mom had a Christian ladies luncheon... Luncheon menu was of course salad ... Normal number of ladies getting together..... for some reason the ladies from another church showed up.... Mom's only and best option was prayer... God multiplied the salad...

Conjunctions of "and, if, but" have never changed from the beginning and will be until the end as Christ was before the foundation of the world and always will be.
