Secular Music a sin?

A local preacher said that some secular singers are demon possessed, and Satan has used some types of secular music to infest unwary unbelievers with demons.

Will I go to Greenwich Village if I like Simon and Garfunkel?
Yes, there is a spot for you in the Village.

If you have relationship with the Lord, know His voice and are sensitive to the leading of Holy Spirit then the things of God are known.

Hold me close my loving savior
Fill this heart to love like You
Lead this life to be like Jesus
it’s all I want to do.
Your will is so precious
Its where I need to be
Glorifying my Savior
for the world to see.

Not once but twice......
1Co 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
1Co 10:22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
1Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

This is absolutely true.

It doesn't mean all secular music is evil, though... although today, a lot of it is. There are some real gems though that really draw me to Christ. I limit my exposure to secular music, I think an abundance of the worldly coming into our minds produce an abundance of worldly coming out in our words, thoughts and deeds, but, check these songs out, and really absorb their lyrics:

It depends. All of the music videos I have posted have been secular, but the meanings are deep and are worship music to me towards Jesus.

My husband loves heavy metal. I don't like most of heavy metal and I was wondering why. I think spiritually heavy metal music brings you into your flesh, because of adrenaline. I'm not saying all heavy metal is evil. Just the feeling you have listening to it.

I agree completely.
IMO, your discernment is correct.
And because it does that to such a high degree, the potential for it leading one into the sins of the flesh is heavy. (Yes, stupid pun intended).

Well, my avatar probably makes it pretty clear that I do watch and listen to secular things.

If you ask me? The use of the word "secular" is unnecessary. There is just music. Music can have a Christian message or it can exist just for the joy of music or for the joy of something in life. Unless you want to argue that Canon in D is evil because it's not specifically Christian and therefore I should not play it on the piano? (I love Canon in D.)
Music with wrong messages and attitudes exist, too, and certainly those should be avoided. But a lot of music out there is harmless.

Okay. I am a (beginner) artist. I draw things. Sometimes my art has a meaning or a message. Sometimes that message is Christian in nature. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes there is no point other than I just wanted to draw something...and that would be most of the time.

There's this speedpainting that was inspired by Isiah 40:31: View attachment 7649

There's this drawing that was simply a vent: View attachment 7650

And there's this drawing that was simply for practice/fun: View attachment 7651

Is the first inherently better the others because of it's specifically Christian? Are the "secular" pieces of mine evil simply because they are not specifically Christian?

I don't see the point of listening to non-Christian music as a believer. Not only is there no benefit, it could be somewhat harmful depending on the style of music.

Having said that, what I watch on Netflix and TV isn't really that good. Heh.

He's right.

He most certainly is right. However, the Lord has used secular music to speak to people. Romans 14 would apply also when answering this question.

In no way am I saying that secular music is good. Just that Romans 14 applies, and that, the Lord is known to speak through music.

Personally, I'm drifting away from secular music more and more. I like Donna Summer a lot too, lol.

I used to think no song is gonna be more interesting than secular music. I was wrong.

Let us bear in mind that lucifer was a musician in heaven. He is looking for members to join him in his fallen state.

I have made up my mind to sing unto the LORD - only

That may well be true, but it also seems like an excuse for people to put something down without any real proof. Like, my brother says recently at his church the pastor did a sermon against anime (or at least mentioned it) and tried to say it was demon-infested simply because some people admitted to having addictions to it and committing suicide... (Of course, I watch anime and am an outright anime nerd, so obviously I'm going to disagree.)
Thing is...addiction is a real problem, okay, but I would say from my own experience that it has very little to do with the content, and probably has little to do with demons either. I was addicted to an innocent children's cartoon to the point where I got suicidal, a few years ago. It was hard to get out of that, and I had to avoid it for a while for the sake of my emotional health...but eventually I was able to watch and enjoy it in a healthy manner again, after the addiction had passed. People can addicted to video games in that way...or anything, really. It doesn't make it evil, it's just unhealthy to get so obsessed with something that your brain forms a dependence on it.

Basically I just don't think people should assume something simply because it's within the realm of possibility or simply because there's no way to disprove it.

Me too. You ask a very good question.
Why do people like certain kinds of music and not others? In fact, Why listen to music at all??

It's how it makes us feel??

Since listening to music affects us spiritually (that's right, isn't it?) Then it may actually be dangerous to listen to certain unnamed specific songs? We don't really know how great of an affect it may have spiritually.

In Matthew 5:16, we see that Jesus instructs us to let our light shine before men... What is this light? I think that, it is (our soul or spirit) the normally unseen part of us...and it glows, according to the spiritual state of our heart and is influenced by our physical emotional state and thoughts...(??)
Some people get glimpses of people glowing here in the natural realm, but peoples glow is normally unseen...but!! I suspect that our glow (aura?) normally is seen in the Kingdom (Spiritual) realm and to spirits.

But I digress, music makes us feel good, or feel something else. This affects our being (...and probably our spiritual glow?).

You didn't like the heavy metal music because it didn't make you feel good like other genres do.

FWIU, its the tones (frequency) that make us feel good or bad, in the music. When heavy metal came out, the biggest thing they did, was to tune way down.

Think of all the hymns you've ever heard and compare to any heavy metal, and consider the musical differences. The 1st thing noticed will be the tuning. Heavy metal is way down, Hymns are up.

This tuning down profoundly affects our being even moreso than the lyrics. That's why you hear of riots at heavy metal concerts, but not at Classical concerts.
Yay Sarah Brightman...lol

God has a band. There's all sorts of references to instruments in scripture.

Riots were at woodstock, other music pre heavy metal music, let alone pre hard rock
Sheesh I should get out the radar tuning forks with the key ranges of some low range to high ranges .30mph is about a 8 inch fork while 80mph is three inches.just to see if I can suggest acts.genre isn't evil but the darn lyrics. Plums soft rock or rock song cut is sad but it's meant to bring attention to teenagers who cut
It also was the vampire diaries theme song.rhyme of the ancient mariner is written by a Christian poet.it's meant to teach about harming an innocent creature even though the albatross legend slash superstition isn't real.iron maiden also took biblical ideas and made songs about them,ie 666,not biblical but shoot how futurists see the mark and the ac is like how they sing it.hallowed by thy name is another.
