Topic: Sin Not Unto Death Explained

Highlights:

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
1 John 5:16 KJV

Sin that doesn't lead to death is sex between lawfully married husband and wife. I believe most of the apostles did not marry because of their Faith and the example they see from Christ hence the reason for this celibacy is fetch from the fact that sex is a sin. However when the gospel is spreading all over, there is a need for some priests, pastors and leader of churches to marry. Apostle John the beloved is regarding to the word sex in a politically correct language that could is understandable by the elders of the church to avoid factions and disagreement between those who calls it sin and those who believe it is normal thing amongst the saints. Remember that there is always argument between the Jewish Christians and the Gentile Christians concerning marriage and other matters as to why apostle Paul addressed this in 1 Corinthians 7:8, 9, 19, 20

The matter of marriage caused heat in the church even Apostle Paul said "
Your husband or wife who isn't a follower is made holy by having you as a partner. This also makes your children holy and keeps them from being unclean in God's sight. 1 Corinthians 7:14

When one person between husband or wife is not a believer of Christ both have sexual union it will not be a sin that lead to death to the one who is a follower of Jesus Christ among the two because they are lawfully married. That is the clearance of Apostle John the beloved. Hence 1 John 5:17

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a* sin not unto death.
1 John 5:17

Prayer: Lord help me to be holy in your sight through the mercy and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Disagree. Sex between husband and wife is COMMANDED in scripture and therefore CANNOT be a sin.

1 Corinthians 7:5
Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Interestingly this was an issue in the Jewish community as well, and the Rabbinic sages of the first century bc weighed in on the matter. Rabbi Shammai said the time was a maximum of 2 weeks. Rabbi Hillel (grandfather of Paul's mentor Gamaliel) said it was 1 week max.

I believe that the sin unto death is utter rejection of the Holy Spirit and His work in the life of a person rejecting His work and intervention. The bible says that God goes after the 1 lost sheep, and that anyone who believes in Christ to a full extent will be saved.

What's in the link provided is nonsense. No true Christian is going to SEE man having sex with his lawful wife (or anyone else, for that matter). A suggestion that a child of God would see such a thing is ludicrous. And to base some doctrine of scripture on that idea is also ludicrous.

What John meant by sin unto death is clearly stated in the context of his epistle -- hating one's fellow Christian. John wrote this epistle many years after Paul wrote Corinthians and Galatians, so he most likely assumed that the churches already knew what Paul wrote about sin unto death, which he calls "deeds of the flesh." (1 Cor. 6:9-10, Gal. 5:19-21, Col. 3:5-6) and John concurs with 1 John 2:29.

Therefore, "sin not unto death" is whatever you can imagine, that is not a heinous sin that can be found in scripture as an abomination against God's law. Furthermore, "sin not unto death" has with it an attitude of repentance, since 3:9 says that the one born of God stops sinning (that is, repents). And since we all continue to have flesh that entices us, we must all live by faith in Christ, such that we look for His deliverance from every temptation.

Finally, "sin unto death" and "sin not unto death" is plural, not singular, since he says "all unrighteousness is sin," which is plural.
