The Bent Cross

Ok folks what is your take on the bent cross that the popes uses, a symbal of the darkside or what ? These crosses where used by people in certain cults, in early times.

This Bent Crucifix is "... a sinister symbol, used by Satanists in the sixth century, that had been revived at the time of Vatican Two. This was a bent or broken cross, on which was displayed a repulsive and distorted figure of Christ, which the black magicians and sorcerers of the Middle Ages had made use of to represent the Biblical term 'Mark of the Beast'. Yet, not only Paul VI, but his successors, the two John-Pauls, carried that object and held it up to be revered by crowds, who had not the slightest idea that it stood for anti-Christ." (p. 72) On page 56 Compton prints a picture of the current Pope, John Paul II, holding this bent or broken cross, just as we have shown, at left.

What do I think?

I think that we spend too much time worrying about the symbols and possibilities and what another MIGHT be thinking instead of preaching and displaying the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters in the faith and the people who really are in need of His love in their lives.

I was taught in the Army, that the only dumb question, is the one you didn't ask. The Bible says test all things prove all things. Now that bent cross is gross looking on top of that it is, a sign of evil.

I did a quick search on the facts, so-to-speak, presented in this article. There are four sites that reference this, all of them pointing back to the same site, and none of the details sourced or linked.

On lone Catholic apologetics site dealt with:

It's pretty clear that this is yet another Fundie fabrication.

What do you think it is, a massive conspiracy in which people who've dedicated their very lives to God are manifesting satanism in a cross?

When the popes were young and growing up, dedicating their lives to serving Jesus Christ, became priests and then when they got up near a Pope, should I think they just decided to start being Satanists?

"I've spent my entire life devoted to Jesus Christ and serving the Lord... oh well, I guess I'll just be a satanist now."

People really need to start exercising critical thinking skills.

1. The site you provided gave no authoritative or historical evidence that the bent cross ever was used by the occult. I find it interesting that site objects to crucifixes in general when Scripture tells us to "proclaim Christ crucified until he comes in glory."
2. "repulsive and distorted?" What's your definition? Isaiah foreshadows the suffering Servant disfigured in His agony...
And he shall grow up as a tender plant before him, and as a root out of a thirsty ground: there is no beauty in him, nor comeliness: and we have seen him, and there was no sightliness, that we should be desirous of him:Despised, and the most abject of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with infirmity: and his look was as it were hidden and despised, whereupon we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows: and we have thought him as it were a leper, and as one struck by God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed.
