The Da Vinci Code

The book called The Da Vinci Code is becoming a big controversy. I don't understand the problem. Its obvious that the book is fiction. Since, if you go to the book store and look in the fiction section there it is. If it says it is fiction then why do people have a problem with the content of the book. I have started reading the book to see what people are complaining about. From what I've heard its just a nice fictional book to read, but then again people are appalled by it and how it says things about Jesus that are untrue. Well, isn't that why the book is called FICTION. I am brutally confused why anyone would have a problem with a book that is just fiction. I was talking to my teacher today about it and she said that one of the actors from the movie said that the book is actually good for the God driven society. Lets say you want to get a group together and talk about God, maybe 5-10 people show up, but if you want to get together and talk about everything wrong in the Da Vinci Code a lot more people come. I think that shows that people are strengthening their belief in God by knowing that the things said in the book are not true.

I would like to know other people's insights on what they think about this book. I think that there shouldn't be a problem with reading the book as long as I know that God is who he is and no book can change what I know is true about him.

I think the problem people have with is that even though it is fiction, it blasphemes Jesus. The book suggests that He had a child (daughter) by Mary Magdeline. Personally I think that God will use the book to further harden the hearts of those who reject Him and continue to sharpen the sword for those of us who know its blasphemy. I'm not much of a fictional book reader anyway so I can leave it just the same as the whole Left Behind series.

I believe that what the book "teaches" is blasphemous. But also it is a fiction book. But you should be very strong in your belief, and faith, before you read this book. 25% of "christians" today now believe that what The Davinci Code "teaches" is true. Dan Brown claims that he used facts when writing this book. However there is no facts, other than maybe some disillusioned priest or perhaps even common person wrote this "theory" down many years ago and now that work has come to light. What Dan Brown says is facts is just theories, and theories that no true Bible believing Christian should believe.

If you are strong in your faith, you shouldn't have a problem reading this book, unless you don't want to read it because what it does state as fact, is, in fact, completely false, and blasphemous

I've started reading the book recently. I would say any Christian who plans on doing some kind of discipling or witnessing should read this book, and be ready to defned the truth about God and Christ from it's words.

I think this view is ridiculous. Its clearly fiction and not blasphemy. I think God knows the difference.

Well, some would argue that much of what occurs in the Bible is not fact, especially since we have to trust not only the people who wrote the books, but the priests and religious insiders who have edited and translated the Bible over the course of time.

Consider a person A who tells person B, "Look at the doll in the window. It looks just like you. It is ugly. Its clothes are laughable. One arm is shorter than the other. It is pathetic."

Why would person B become upset.

If you do not understand why or how propaganda is used, perhaps undertaking to learn more would solve your confusion.

The book itself is a pathetic work of fiction. Anything by Ludlum is far superior in this genre. The only merit it has is as an attack on Christianity.

If someone wrote a book specifically stating that your mother was a whore and a liar, would you have any reason to be upset? It is only a work of fiction.
