The Gift of Tongues

Hawkman mentioned this in another thread; and it is something I would like to discuss please.

My grandpa (moms side) spoke in Tongues often. As a really small child, in Church one morning I asked my grandma what he was doing. She told me he was having a private conversation with God; where he would open his heart and mouth to God; then God would take control of his vocal cords to keep the conversation private between them. I have yet to be able to do such a thing.

My granny (dads side) used to jump up every Sunday to speak in "Tongues"; but the clicking and clacking sounds she would utter was real similar to the sounds the other women were making; which lead me to doubt what was happening?

Opinions or experiences (if you can share just the basics) please?

Speaking in tongues is a Spiritual gift given after we are Spiritually born again and baptized in Christ as the Holy Spirit speaks through us for edifying and instruction for the body of Christ (Church), or as we pray, but do not exactly know how to pray for something as we can not find the words to speak. 1Corinthians 12:10; 14:1-40; Romans 8:26; Acts 2:11,10:46.

Here is a short video that will explain the Spiritual gift of tongues that I think will help you.

Thank you very much; I wish my "short term memory" was better so I could recall various Scriptures as I sought the information.

Most of the time when I witnessed my grandpa (moms side) speaking in Tongues; it was when he was troubled of something. I would never ask him about the private conversation he had; but it always seemed to reassure him.

My granny (dads side); I'm sure was just full of it. When every woman in that Church would jump up and carry on in unison; that was just so much nonsense. That experience was actually one of the reasons I stopped attending Church when I was old enough to make that choice; you can't be a "fake Christian" in my book.

Yes , that is a good explanation of praying in tongues . Speaking/Praying in tongues , the Holy Spirit gives the utterance to us that have the Gift .
