Hey All,
The Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Old Testament.
Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
I would offer that the Spirit of God is the Holy Spirit. (If you want to deny this because it does not specify "the Holy Spirit," I won't argue. I just disagree.)
Genesis 41:38-39 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
The Spirit of God was in Joseph. Not around, not close by, in.
Exodus 31:1-3 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, (Also reinforced in
Ex. 35:30-31)
Bezaleel was filled with the Spirit of God, and given the spiritual gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and workmanship. The Holy Spirit gives these gifts.
Nehemiah 9:19-20 Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
The spirit the children of Israel was given instructed them, and nouished them.
Psalms 51:11
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
David believed he had the Holy Spirit with him. This psalm ask God to not remove Him from David.
Isaiah 63:9-11 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.
Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?
So Moses was aware of the Holy Spirit; as he wrote of Him. Isaiah says the Holy Spirit was put within Moses. When the children of Israel rebelled, it vexed the holy Spirit. Vexed means angered, or enraged, or furiated.
There may be other examples. But I believe I have offered enough to draw a conclusion.
The Holy Spirit is not a New Testament concept. The personal indwelling can be found in the Old Testament.
I just thought this was pretty cool.
Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz
