The Paraclete was released if and only if Jesus died.

The Holy Spirit dwells in a person permanently only after Jesus' death on the cross.

Let proposition G = Jesus goes away.
P = The Paraclete comes to us.

John 16:
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate [Paraclete] will not come to you;
¬G → ¬P

But if I go, I will send him to you.
G → P

Therefore, P ↔ G. The Paraclete comes to us iff Jesus goes away.

John 7:39 affirms a similar concept:
Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

See People in the OT who were said to have the Spirit in them.

The only people 'moved' by the Holy Spirit in the OT were prophets, priests, and kings.

Samson
Judges 14:6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
Judges 14:19 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
Judges 15:14 And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.

...and Nazarites.
He was consecrated and separated to God.
But he did break many of his vows. Still, God used him mightily for His purpose.

Hi Tony, are there Scripture passages that speak directly to this, to the 'permanent' indwelling of the Holy Spirit in NT believers, that is, as well of His temporary indwelling of ALL who were filled by Him prior to the Day of Pentecost (that Acts 2 describes as happening on Pentecost, following His Ascension the same year) 🤔

BTW, I don't disagree with you, particularly about the NT indwelling, but I wonder if the Spirit's OT indwelling was always and only temporary (I'm interested because the Holy Spirit did not leave King David after he committed two very intentional sins, adultery and murder).

Lastly, I've heard of the Holy Spirit being sent or proceeding, but I've never heard of Him being "released" before. It makes it sound like He got bailed out and was "released" from jail ;)

God bless you!!
