It appears that many struggle with understanding the resurrection at Christ's coming, and who all it affects. It's very easy to assume that Rev.20:5 about the "dead" that lived not again until the thousand years were over are about flesh dead people. It is not. The following verses reveal why.

John 5:28-29
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
(KJV)

Our Lord shows in John 5 both the just and the unjust are raised at the same time.

Matt 25:31-32
31 When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory:
32 And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
(KJV)

Acts 24:15
15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
(KJV)

Both of those examples also show the resurrection is for both the just and the unjust.

In 1 Cor.15:49, Paul said as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Have the unjust (wicked) also borne the "image of the earthy"? Yes. They also will bear the "image of the heavenly", and it doesn't have to wait to the end of Christ's thousand years reign either. Paul also showed to have eternal Life through Christ, one must go through two types of changes. The body of corruption must put on incorruption, and "this mortal" must "put on immortality". The change of the image likeness body, the body of corruption to one of incorruption is what the "resurrection of damnation" will also be like, but their "this mortal" part will still be mortal. That's not about a new flesh body. The mortal part Paul was talking about is the soul's condition, either being in Christ made alive by The Holy Spirit, or still being 'dead' and in a liable to perish state.

The "first resurrection" of Rev.20 is about those in Christ who will have the body of incorruption, AND will have put on immortality, i.e., their inner soul condition. But the "dead" will only have the body of incorruption, and still subject to the "second death" (lake of fire).

This means the "dead" during Christ's Milennium will be spiritually dead, just as those who refuse Christ today are spiritually dead inside. That's why our Lord showed in John 5 at the sound of His voice, ALL in the graves will be resurrected at the same time, and not in different times.
