William Shirer's last book, published shortly after his death in 1993.
This book is another example of Shirer's fine journalistic style and excellent research. As advertized it tells the story of the Tolstoys half century of marriage. Predictably there are soap opera like qualities , but only so much as the story requires. It was a long 50 years.
And as the song says 'A savior's a nuciance to live with at home ' specially a nasty old apostate savior.
Tolstoy fans will enjoy it, for the rest of us its a bit of a text book.


H
