Truth

Hello there Brother Daniel, qodesh greetings in the Name of Yahshua Jesus. I see it's been a while since you have fellowshipped with us here at CF.net. I welcome your inquiry into the most important question on "Truth". Ever since meeting up with the Redeemer of my heart/soul in November of 1974, I have loved this verse of Scripture....

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (ESV)

Therefore, the source of Truth is the Divine Counsel, expressed thru Christ Jesus. Thank you for that question. :hug

I've heard about the truth, while no details are mentioned. Things like "the truth is relitive," "the truth is inside you," "there is no truth," and "God is the truth."

Many of these are a saying and a belief people walk with in their lives, but they are all vague. Without looking into them and testing them they all sound ok, good, or at least plausible.

With that in mind here are what I've found:

•"the truth is relative." This is usually talking about opinions, and ways of seeing things. And in a way it's true but it's not because truth is relitive, but our understanding is. Truth is still there.

•"the truth is inside you." Introspection can lead to some great insight, and we have a good means of looking at the world around and and discerning what might be real and what is a lie. But the truth inside of us is not truth. It can be corrected and shown it's errors. In that way I know that the truth in me is nothing compared to the outside that I've not seen or understood.

•"There is no truth." An extreme take on the truth is relative. I hear about this when people get lost in too many answers or descide to stop looking. But deep down we know there are things that are real and things that aren't.

•"The truth is God." So far, though it's a vague generalization, I've never seen this to not be true. Those who look to God, listen and follow His teachings, reap His protection, or His blessings, or change into people that are better then they were before. More like Jesus, is my hope.

Because of this I would encourage you. Trust God and test the truth. See if it is real.

Excellent reply Chopper. In addition to Jn.14:6 I like the words of Jesus in His prayer to the Father: "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" Jn.17:17.

TO BE DEEP IN SCRIPTURE IS TO CEASE BEING CATHOLIC, PROTESTANT, JEW AND CALVINIST.

Truth is taught us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who teaches us all God wants us to learn, John 14:26. It's up to us to Spiritually discern what we are taught by others as apart from the Holy Spirit man can teach us nothing, 1 John 4:1-6.

Yes, and the Holy Spirit gave God's word to holy men, Jn.16:13, II Pet.1:21.

The truth is, John 14:26 doesn’t say; ”Truth is taught us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who teaches us all God wants us to learn.”

“I have spoken these things to you while staying with you.
John 14:25 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 14:25&version=DLNT

Testing what the tagged verse actually says, we find out the “you” in v26 are specifically the 11 disciples (Judas Iscariot had already been instructed to leave them) that Jesus was physically speaking to while staying with them and had taught them directly (thru His spoken word) prior to His resurrection. We (us) now have those teachings specifically because the Helper, Helped these 11 disciples remember and ultimately understand and record what He had spoken to them.

I will no longer speak many things with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. And he does not have anything in Me,
John 14:30 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 14:30&version=DLNT

Are you being consistent and thus believe v30 (I will no longer speak many things with you) applies directly to you in the same way you believe v26 applies directly to you?

Did we not have a conversation in the past where you believe Spiritual gifts nor the Holy Spirit are for today, but was only for the disciples? Please correct me if it wasn't you.

What do you make of this verse below that John was telling the Christians in Ephesus that were facing a threat from false teachings coming out of the Christian community.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

That anointing is the Holy Spirit that indwells those who are Spiritually born again, John 3:5-7, and teaches us all things as we receive the word of God through Spiritual eyes as the carnal mind can not perceive the things of the Spirit, 1 Corinthians 2:14.

Nope, wasn’t me. Nor do I believe the Holy Spirit nor Spiritual gifts are not for us today.

My point was simple, though. The verse you tagged doesn’t say anything about the Holy Spirit teaching us all God wants us to learn. It’s about the Holy Spirit reminding and helping the 11 understand what Jesus had spoken to them while He was with them!

I do not understand that the miracles of the spiritual gifts are available today. As for the Holy Spirit it depends upon what one means by it.

I am speaking of the Spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 as in the diversity and the importance of them within the body of Christ that makes up His Church. It's through the Holy Spirit that these gifts are given us as God's Spirit works in us and through us.

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.

If you do not believe the Holy Spirit or Spiritual gifts are for today then there is no need to answer your question. If one does not believe then one is not Spiritually born again by the Spirit and the word.

I Cor.12:27 concludes with the promise that we would be shown "a more excellent way". The question then is, what is the more excellent way???

We are to desire these gifts as the Holy Spirit shows us a more excellent way of order within the body of Christ.

I left as message on your pm.

Got it. I sent a few things back. (Two towards a conversation on a bible study. Should be seen in the inbox menu at the top of the screen. One reply to your profile messages. And one or two to my profile page replying to your messages.

As far as our perception is concerned, to discern that which is Truth from that which is not the Truth, is ultimately going to form what we will view as reality. Therefore, logically and fundamentally speaking, Truth is that which is, as opposed to that which is not. Hence "ignorance" and "knowledge" are terms that denote degrees that are relative to that Truth which is absolute. And since Truth is an absolute, one's reasoning is therefore subject to an ignorance or knowledge of that Truth. Hence at the core of our reasoning, it is our understanding of that Truth that will determine our sanity and insanity.

But answering what is Truth in a dictionary definition, is very much different than actually discerning or declaring that which is True. In fact, words are rather inadequate to articulate the fullness of all that the term "Truth" would be denoting.

But suffice it to say, that to maintain sanity one need only have a small piece of Truth on which to build a sound reasoning wherein one can substantiate that which is reality. For we can be certain that what is not reality, will run counter to the Truth and seek to supplant it. For we know that the lie exists to subvert the Truth and therefore the Truth came before the lie.

Notice that I have added to the narrative of knowledge and ignorance with a context of Truth and lies. I do this because the lie can only find any valid consideration in ignorance of what is True, and it is therefore the lie that actually distinguishes the Truth, just as Light shows it's distinction in the darkness. According to scripture, the first lie introduced to mankind in his innocence, was that God (The Creator) is untrustworthy. Hence every intention of every lie invented is ultimately meant to impugn the Character of God as pertains to the sincerity of His Love towards us.

So in summation, the lie shows that the real and Eternal Truth is actually about the Person of God. And subsequently that the knowledge of God is revealed in the Christ Jesus (The True Image of God sent by God), Spiritually depicted as a Love that would sacrifice His own life through great suffering, so as to save the lives of others less worthy than Himself. And this is the piece of Truth which God has given us. Even a piece of Himself, so that we may have a pure and Holy Image of God at the core of our reasoning, through which we are empowered to discern all Truth which every lie seeks to subvert. 1 Peter 1:12, Matthew 13:17.
