Good morning Friends of Soul man's and my Bible Studies. We have a new topic. This was suggested by Hermit, this is what he said....

Truthful Living. What does it mean and how to incorporate it in/as our new nature.

It is a very good idea to do a health check-up on our Christ-nature to see if we are expressing what Jesus intends us to work out in our daily lives that demonstrate that we are abiding in Christ Jesus by adhering to His Way, Truth, and Life.

TRUTH, what an awesome nature of Jesus, the Son of God, truth!! Look what He told the believing Jews....

John 8:31 "So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Freedom. When I think of how Truth causes freedom, and lie's only cause guilt and heartache, Truth is where we should walk.

Sooooo, lets focus on what our good Brother Hermit suggested and look at Truth from all angles and have a productive thread....Thank you Hermit for directing this new study.

Here again, we have a paradox. We are free because of the Spirit and yet we are a slave to love because we love people.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

Thank you Reba. There is so much to discuss and search out the value of Truth. Like you said, Psalm 51:6, as you posted, gives us a window to peek into the heart of God to His hidden parts.

just a side thought....

...one thing that appeals to me about Jesus and (solid, doctrinally-sound) Christianity is --truth--. I grew up reading books above my comprehension level...smart, but not brilliant, kinda precocious, but also immature. Thing is...I was all hopped up on postmodernism, queer theory, all that stuff...and, predictably, satan had a field day with my life.

Before The Lord took mercy on me and moved on my heart, so I even I could get genuinely saved thru the heavy haze of "too much electroshock," the order, the structure, the...solid nature, for lack of a better phrase...of a Christian Worldview appealed to me. CS Lewis was a big influence, in particular.

And now...well, I got genuinely saved (by a miracle!) a bit less than 5 years ago. I don't live in the haze of too much electroshock, Praise God (!!!), and even my IQ estimate is up to snuff now, although...now, I don't put nearly as much faith in all that, for obvious reasons.

Philippians 4:8 is a verse kinda sorta related to this topic that has been popping into my mind lately. Another verse that I think upon from time to time along the same line of thought is John 4:24.

Am I understanding you correctly when you say we are set free from our fears? That the Truth that sets us free (John 8:32) set us free from our fears? Which fears would those be?

There may be fears that are revealed in truth, but does it set us free? For the scriptures say that perfect love cast out fear.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.


But in John 8:32, when Jesus said you will know the truth and the truth will make you free, it was to make you free from being a servant of sin. There is but only one Truth that can set you free from being a servant of sin.

Have you been set free from your fear of sin? Do you fear the lake of fire?

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

I like what you've posted about fear being invalid. I recently was reading about Joshua and Caleb. They trusted the Truth of God's deliverance in the Promised Land, where the others trembled in their sandals at the sight of the people.

All fears.
There may be fears that are revealed in truth, but does it set us free?...
Only our ego-self (active old nature) fears the truth, especially about itself as an invalid story, created by the mind, to make sense of itself. That is why it always seeks validation.

God is Truth and is Love. Both Truth and Love share the same traits: truthful/honesty. reliable, unchanging, doubtless, fearless, always present when sought, needing nothing (unconditional), and loving.
But in John 8:32, when Jesus said you will know the truth and the truth will make you free, it was to make you free from being a servant of sin. There is but only one Truth that can set you free from being a servant of sin.
Sin is being untrue, and Truth unshackles your enslavement (belief in) to sin (what is untrue). The truth replaces what we believe to what is obvious. The freedom is witnessing the obvious, being doubtless, fearless, unconditional.
Have you been set free from your fear of sin?
Yes, because fear is a deception and in that regard a sin. It is being caught up in denial which is a sin, because it is willful. We cannot deny something without knowing what we are denying. That is why we are totally responsible for all of our own thoughts and actions - no one to blame.
Do you fear the lake of fire?
The lake of fire is to banish all untruths to leave only what is true. Whatever is untrue in me deserves the lake of fire.
John 8:34-36

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Seems there is a lot of voices, each one with its own truth. Example; Speculating on what is say! when the President speaks, commentators come on after the fact and say 'this is really what he means.'
Jesus Christ told us exactly what truth is, it is a person, the person of Jesus Christ.
There is no other truthful-life, there is no other way, there is no other life-truth.
As we have discussed previously, the truthful living is, you have no other life.
Searching the scriptures for anything other than Christ as life, when looking at spiritual life, will end in disaster if they are not searched for life (Christ).
He is the consummation of everything you can search for.
He is the nucleus, the center of all things, and holds all things together, Col. 1-17, 19,
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Nothing outside of Christ in you can bring truth, Col. 1:25-29,
25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Apart from Him as life nothing works, nothing fits, you're life in this world can and most likely will be a living hell.
Trying to live for God from self effort is no less than an arduous task to say the least.
Personal testimony: I have been through what I describe as three Hell's on earth.
I have been told more than once 'you need balance in your ministry,' there is no balancing Christ as life, 1 John 5:11-12,
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

If you want a psychology, philosophy lesson there are plenty around to be found.

"If you live like this God will bless you, if you had more faith you could get healed, you need to read your bible more, you should pray more and give to God, we are building Gods program."

I believe in lifestyle, healing, I believe we should pray, as well as give to God. We have made a tradition out of the things of God.
We have exchanged religion for Christ. When you talk about Christ as life, your talking about a lifestyle most have yet to realize.
It is easier to walk around repenting all the time and never coming to truth. That is law, sure we repent, but there is a life in Christ that goes beyond a Christian just trying not too sin all the time and when they do they go to Wednesday night meeting to the whipping post, no growth no understanding of who they are, not looking very different from the world. Grace will be the hardest thing you can live, it makes you responsible for living Christ, allowing this mind to be in you.
What on Gods green earth do you think you will be judged for when you stand before your Father at that white throne.
How big a building you help put together, on your doctrine, or what you believe.
When we stand before our Father He will ask you one question "what did you do with my Son that has been in you from the moment you believed."
The only life and blessed hope for humanity, you cannot spend all your time trying to straighten out all life's trouble and everyone's idea of religion.
Trying to prove your way, you're truth, we are Christ-persons, Christ-tians. Find truth, get it fixed in you, tie it about your neck. It is written before your very eyes and we will not see it if we don't look for Christ as life.
As wonderful as leaders can be if they are not preaching revelation, preaching Christ, not just about Him, but His very life in you as a message, they are doing you a great disservice.

I can also imagine God saying "Because you would not realize that the spirit in you, before you were born, is Me. So I sent my Son, for all to witness, Me in Him, so you will realize Me in you through my Son in you. You know this is true because when you hear the Truth, which is Me, you recognize Me. You cannot deny what I know you know."

iLOVE posted a comment in some thread recently that gave me pause to consider. I don't remember the number he cited from the book of Numbers, but of the over 600,000 peoples that were delivered out of the land of Egypt, only two lived to enter into the promised land: Joshua and Caleb.

Truthful living has been my goal for a long time and it is never ending, but the journey is absolutely liberating.

Truth itself is a HUGE topic. It covers everything that is real, but often not seen.
Truthful living is a fraction of Truth, yet still huge, because it deals with living our life in the true, in the real, and is often denied by others out of fear of change. This denial is not only be non-believers in Christ, but even from those of lesser faith, and that does not exclude me.

I am mentioning this because the Truth intrinsically opposes fear, and everybody experiences fear. The difference is that the person of truthful living acknowledges their fears, even the subtle ones. Through their faith in Christ, to be empowered/encouraged to look at their own fear, unveils the fear-story over the truth they are denying. This unveiling of the truth liberates our fear from self-enslavement.

That sounds funny, but true. It is our own fabricated fears that enslave us. By believing in our own will (not God's), we have enslaved ourselves to our own fears. As a result we literally scare ourselves - even to death. Those that believe in Christ know this to be true, though many do not yet fully realize it. You will know it when you realize and accept that we are totally responsible for our own thoughts and actions; meaning, no one to blame, no one to forgive. This is often hard to accept.

The difference between knowing the truth/Truth, is whether we reference our life from the ego-self or from Self in Christ. By fear or by Truth. To be or not to be - that is the question... to maintain while living truthfully.

Most people did not understand Jesus, even his own disciples had trouble grasping the truth. Jesus Christ's life reference was not from self-will but from God's-will. His life reference was viewing reality from the Spirit point of view, and not from the fearful ego-self point of view. If you read the bible from the spirit point of view, from Christ in you via the Spirit of Truth, the verses become clear and nourishing to your True Self. Truthful living is to reference life from the Spirit point of view.

Fear is intrinsic to our survival instincts. So truthful living, how I see it, is never about never being fearful, it is about using our free-will to choose God's will in all things, to face our fears and become fearless in Truth in all things.

Fear comes from the sin-nature, at its root is fear. Every good deed, every action, reaction, every bad deed, every war comes through fear.
Have you ever looked at say: some sort of notorious type and think they must be fearless. When it is quite the opposite that is happening, an act of violence is committed out of fear.
Fear is the ruling factor that drives mankind.
The moment you believed on the lord Jesus Christ you were born again.
The thing is we have dealt with this fear factor all of our lives, and it will continue to rule the believer even after they are saved.
The renewing of your mind becomes the greatest issue you will ever face.
We are still afraid to yield our minds, we will give parts and pieces but to really yield and give up, fear will control you.
The mind can only control or yield, Romans 6 has made it very clear to us.
The HolySpirit will not treat you like you were treated before, the Christ in you must have preeminence over the believers mind to express Himself, you're New Father can be trusted.
He is not the Fearful God of the Old Testament anymore.
He birthed you and loves you more than the mind can understand.
Let go, do not try to understand it, you can't. The world is not going to change, quit looking at it and wondering if He is going to do anything.
Fix yourself on the new life and everything will fall in place, you're Father has everything worked out without you and I worrying about how He will work it out.

I've noticed over time that many people (most?) lie when they do not have to. No one wants to put too much personal information out about themselves, but I've learned that you don't need to lie about it. Choose your words more carefully.

You are correct, and that to me is so tragic. 12 spy's went out, only Joshua and Caleb believed God. Along with the 10 unbelievers, all the ages 20 and upward were kept out of the promised Land.

What I meant be this, is that our mind detects anything that may threaten its survival. Survival instinct is automatic and stems from our primitive brain (part of brain stem). It cannot be sensed beforehand for us to becalm it. That is why we have a thing called faith. Faith becalms it. We, with faith, put our faith into becalming our instinctual fears as soon as it arises. All this can happen in a fraction of a second.

Because fear, uncontrolled by faith, is our old nature, all its derivatives will also arise in us. A truthful person in faith, becalms them, and sometimes almost unnoticeably. Like, when meditating in faith, you feel a spider crawling up your leg. Instinctual fear arises, but faith becalms it, and you allow the spider to take a journey on you. This can happen within a second. The mentioned derivatives of fear include the usual discomforting feelings of impatience, indifference, being misunderstood, etc., are subject to the same arising. They arise, but faith quickly becalms them. After all, we are still human. Even Jesus Christ was not totally exempt from his human side as told by his experience in the garden of Gethsemane.

There are ways to get around it, as you found out.
In short, I try not to point the finger at other peoples truth uninvitedly. I always try to use myself as the subject of exposure and vulnerability. I am not afraid to disclose myself. I have done it so many times that is is just who I am. I no longer have secrets, harbored guilt or shame. I still sense remorse, but I am never afraid to disclose that.

The strange thing is that many who know me often pay a visit, not to talk about the usual things but about truth. Some come to see me to discover what they themselves are afraid to find out. It is as if they feel safer if someone else discloses them. Truth brings us closer but at the same time distances us when they still have secrets not ready to be revealed. Sad to know that they are still self-enslaved. But many eventually unshackle themselves through faith in God that they will be forgiven.

Wisdom and Holiness and Truth are all a part of God's Light.
Jesus is the "Light of the world".
The reason that the light of truth has the ability to set you free, is because it illuminates the darkness, = allows you to discerned evil and avoid it.
God's word is Truth, and this truth is a Lamp, which is a light, and allows us to SEE what to embrace and what to avoid.
Wisdom, is the ability to discern differences, and Truth is the Light of God that shows us Why and HOW.
