[__ Prayer __] Unemployed for 6 months

Asking for prayer for my employment situation. I was laid off from my job of 10 years 6 months ago and I have been unable to find a new position. I've tried everything, every job site, all types of positions that match my background willing to make a lateral move or even a step down from where I was), networking, working with recruiters

The latest setback was another rejection I got yesterday. It was for a job I was really hoping to get and I felt good about it. I prayed that they'd make a decision this week and not next week like they originally told me so I could get a respite from this stress and uncertainty. And they did make a decision this week, just not to hire me. I got a call from HR (which made me think it was good news for about 30 seconds) saying they hired the other candidate. It left me reeling because it was almost exactly what I prayed for and I felt like it must be some mistake.

I have another company I'm hoping to hear from next week and a phone interview on Tuesday but that job would require moving across the country.
I'm grateful that I still possibly have these chances and that all through this period I haven't had any major emergencies or losses. I'm trying to find joy in that and use the time I have to be a help to my friends and family.
But I flip back and forth from feeling hopeful and helpless. I'm so discouraged and I am having trouble believing that something will work out in my favor.

Thanks to anyone willing to pray for me! And I'd love to hear from anyone in a similar situation!

any one in your shoes would have the same feelings.our son after H.s went to tech college net work admin time to graduate he found out the assoc degree was equal to a h.s diploma .. they wanted a B.A degree plus 5 years experience.. it took him a while get work.. in fact he quit putting his degree on his job app. he got a job on a farm working 7 days a week 10-12 hour days climbing grain bins wadding rice fields .he then got a job at local factory 8.00 some odd cents a hour .from a parents stand point i prayed
i just about gave up hope... of course your dealing with spiritual warfare that is very real . i been with Briggs and stratton lawn mower engine manufacturer small engine division for going on 11 yeras . we went from 3.2 million engine sales to around 2 million . they have automated many departments and at age 56 layoff runs through my mind.. will they shut down our plant .. i pray the Lord gives you the strength to keep going.. we really have no choice sink or swim.. keep looking searching praying no scripture of assurance .just a walk of faith yes i will pray for you tonight in Jesus name i pray the Lord sends you a job... :amen:pray:thumbsup

Hi Sister lisa-in-FL, that is rough, and I'll certainly pray for you. I did experience similar problems with a job where we were all laid off, and I ended up having to move twelve hundred miles to find other employment, and then that was not in my technical skills. I worked hard piece work for three years before God gave me the job I worked at for the next thirty-four years until retired.

In my former position I'm convinced I was a Christian, although knowing little of nothing of the bible. When the piece work job also began laying off I was hired into a civil service job along with an evangelist, and things began to change. I came to know without doubt I was saved, I learned what running the race to having God's best for me was, and my life was being changed from glory to glory as I grew in grace and knowledge of my Lord.

Rom 8:28 tells us that all things work together for good to those of us which love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose. Being discouraged comes with that territory, although there is a song "Faith is the victory" of overcoming the world. Now that world is overcoming our foe through Christ, but setbacks as you're going through, it is faith that will give you peace regardless the situation. Look up, and expect God's deliverance

Blessings in Christ Jesus. :wave2

HI Eugene -
Oh, glorious victory, That overcomes the world! I know that song well. Thanks for your testimony and prayers!
I also like the verses later in that chapter:
Romans 8: 38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I'm pretty sure that includes job loss too :)

Hi Lisa, I have been through it. It's like your alone in the world while everyone else's life goes on.......But it will get better. I wound up with a better job than I had....I also became closer to the Lord. I did not forget about Him after things got better. I was the only bread winner in the family, so I had a lot of pressure on me to get a job. Sometimes the company that laid you off might give you some direction and help in finding and recommending you for other companies. Have you used the search media like the one below? Just keep at it and continue in prayer, you will get a job.
In Christ

Thanks for the prayers Wondering, HeisRisen and Tessa!
Thanks also, Douglas for the advice! I have been using all the online job search sites. I've also seen a lot of forums for other people like me who have applied to so many they've lost count, so I know I'm not alone in this. As a Christian though, I always look for the meaning in everything so I'm adding more pressure. :)

have you tried the temporary job services

Hi Lisa, welcome to our amazing Forum. I read your prayer request, and of all the others, yours attracted my spiritual interest by the urging of the Holy Spirit. Off and on, thru out the day today, you have been on my mind and your need for a Job that would fit your background and that you would like very much.

So, our Abba Father has something up His great big sleeve just for you. So, as I communicate to Elohim (God), The Father, His Son Yahshua Jesus, and the Ruah (Spirit) We are in agreement with the Word of Elohim....

2Thessaloniams 3:10 "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Master Yahshua the Messiah, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread." (Word of Yahweh)

Therefore, I am believing that Elohim (God) will honor His promise and instruction to supply you with a job that will meet all your needs. So, as I continue my conversations with Abba Father for the next seven days, March 2nd to March 8th I believe that a new job will be yours in seven days or less.

All I want you to do Lisa is to start, and to continue to thank Abba Father during these next seven days for the job that He is giving you. As much as you can remember thru each day, thank Him for your new job. It can be as simple as "Thank You Abba Father for my new job that You are giving me."

In Christ Jesus our Savior, I Love You,
Chopper

Hi Ezra - thanks for checking in! Thejob search is still going . . . I can't get a temp agency employee on the phone and they don't return my voicemails. I'm going to try again but I'm getting easily discouraged when it seems like everything is a battle.

I had a phone interview with a slighty ditzy HR manager Monday who reached out to me. She asked why I applied for the job and then laughed at herself "oh yeah I reached out to you" then asked why I would leave my current employer . . so I had to explain about the layoff/outsourcing at my last job. She tried to hide it but I could tell from that point on she was no longer interested. I got an email from her yesterday saying "they were going in a different direction".

One interesting thing:
I was praying for answers and understanding about why there have been a couple of jobs that seemed so perfect but didn't work out. So yesterday I heard from a recruiter I worked with last Fall and long story short, she put me on the phone with a coworker that had a position that might fit my experience. In our conversation it came up that he worked recently for a company I had interviewed with and that could have hired me on the spot but didn't. He said that department is very understaffed and underpaid and the higher ups don't really want to grow the department. It was a small thing but it helped remind me that its not always a "rejection" when you don't get the job, sometimes its even out of the hiring managers control. Also, I don't think it was a coincidence I ended up on the phone with him.

I have a new opportunity with a great local company that just came up. I'm going to be prepping this weekend for the follow up interview next week.

I'm exhausted and stressed, but not giving up.
Thanks for the prayers!

we have a H.R that is hateful she is all smiles when you meet her in the hall. but in a disagreement she turns hateful ..no way to treat a person

Hey Ezra - One thing I've learned from this is that while you might be perfect for the job based on the job description and your experience, you are still at the mercy of the HR manager/recruiter, the hiring manager and the atmosphere of the company itself. I thought I was perfect for one role early on but the hiring manager was younger than me and had half my experience, we had a great interview but maybe she thought I'd try to take her job or that I'd leave for something else after a couple of months? There was another one where I made it to final round after some great interviews and this VP had an MBA (which I don't have) and she didn't seem impressed with anything I said. Recently, I applied for a job that was reposted and is an almost exact match to my experience. I get a notification that they looked at my application (BOTH times) but they haven't called me.

Its a very frustrating and dehumanizing process, especially when you are out of work through no fault of your own. age discrimination is a real thing too, unfortunately.
Hang in there! Keep looking! I'm praying for you too! Is there any new training or certifications that you can work on so you have more options?

Original poster Update - Thanks again to all who prayed for me! I started my new job last Tuesday! I had suffered another rejection and then within two weeks had an offer from another company I interviewed with.
I have to admit I'm still struggling a little. I was out of work for 9 months and jumping back into a job has been jarring - I have that fish-out-of-water feeling like they expect more out of me than I'm ready to take on. Also, there have been a few red flags I've noticed about this company, where they say they want to ease me into the role but are doing the opposite. I'm also not entirely sure I wanted this kind of role but I needed a job.
Isn't it funny how we can still be unhappy when we get the thing we were praying so hard for?
Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm trying to keep this all in perspective because the company isn't that bad, the job isn't that bad and I haven't been the new girl in 11 years now so I need to just take it one day at a time (that's my mom's motto - and speaking of, she had a health crisis recently that has reminded me I could lose either of my parents sooner than I think)

Thanks again for the prayers!
