Can someone sum up for me the beliefs of the United Methodist Church. I heard that there doctrines include political stances. I looked at the main site and I didn't really get all my questions answered. I know there is a smart person on here that can help.
In particular, but elaborate if you would like:
abortion
gun control
mainly liberal? or Conservative
trinity
homosexuals/lesbians
contraception
masterbation
etc.
Any critisisms? thanks

I can't answer your specific questions. But I think that they are pretty liberal. Aren't they the ones who run the T.V. add where gays are welcome?

That is the UNITED church of christ (uncapitalized for obvious reasons - they have the wrong christ).


United Methodists are a Conservitive bunch who hold to a "holiness" doctrine that Christ brings us to santification after salvation.

Do a search on John Wesley.

Yah, God forbid someone lets the 'gays' in. Thats the sign of a self-destrutive, ungodly church for sure!!!!!

By "let them in" if you mean through the front doors, then no. But if you mean ordaining homosexuals, performing homosexual marriages and denying homosexuality is a sin, then yes.

The United Church in general subscribes to liberal theology where Jesus is no longer God Incarnate, didn't perform miracles, didn't physically rise from the dead, where the biblical text is not regarded as authoritative and much of it is not considered relevant for today, etc. So it is no surprise that they ordain homosexuals and perform homosexual marriages.

Are they thinking about joining the church? Is wrightbrigade in love with a United Methodist hottie? I realize that it's none of my business. I'm just curious.
