I fear that it will be counter-productive in the long run. Public support for abortion has been declining in the past few decades. This might reverse that trend.

There's already some indication that this is underway:
It's still too soon to know how views on abortion might shift in the wake of the court's decision, or to forecast how the aftermath of the decision might affect the upcoming election. In a survey taken in May, Gallup found little change in the longstanding majority opposition to overturning Roe. However, its polling also found a shift on several other metrics. For the first time in Gallup surveys since 2001, a slim majority (52%) said they considered abortion to be morally acceptable. A similar 53% majority also said that abortion should be legal under most or all circumstances, up from 45% just a year ago -- a shift that was particularly pronounced among Democrats and younger Americans.

Already, I see people tying this issue to the far right, insurrectionists, racists, etc. The "birds of a feather" argument is never a conclusive one, but it can be a persuasive one. It may turn out to be a huge strategic error.
