When was jesus born?

According to Matthew, Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great (Matthew 2:1). According to Luke, Jesus was born during the first census in Israel, while Quirinius was governor of Syria (Luke 2:2). This is impossible because Herod died in March of 4 BC and the census took place in 6 and 7 AD, about 10 years after Herod's death.

Some Christians try to manipulate the text to mean this was the first census while Quirinius was governor and that the first census of Israel recorded by historians took place later. However, the literal meaning is "this was the first census taken, while Quirinius was governor ..." In any event, Quirinius did not become governor of Syria until well after Herod's death

If I remember correctly, there was more than one Herod.

You are correct, there was.

Also DavidDavid, remember, this is a Christian Site. if you are here simply to discredit our beliefs, it will not be tolerated and your accout will be in jeapordy of being deactivated until further notice.

I believe I speak for more than just myself.

I am merely pointing out the problems with the NT. If you have solid answers then I will accept them, but I dont want the same jibberish answers I will always get. The Herod that died in 4 B.C. is the Herod that the Nt is speaking of in Jesus birth, the one supposedly killing all the children 2 years and younger in Bethleham. This problem can't be resolved, the other Herod came years after King Herod.

Herod Archelaus, son of the Herod that died in 4 BC, took over right after his father died. It was in Dad's will that he inherit the rule.

Mat 2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

Oh, I forgot to mention, Archelaus ruled until 6AD.

In Matthew it just states that jesus was born during the time of King Herod. The scriptures don't say that this is Herod Archelaus.
Again, I point out...

Mat 2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

I'm not following your point, unless your point is to argue for the sake of argument. I have shown there was a King Herod during the time the two Gospels point toward. You said the census was about 6AD. I have shown there was a Herod in charge in 6AD.

End of discussion.
