Why I love the paleo diet

James Clark

Member
I have been paleo as much as possible for a year or so, and it is great! I feel so much better than I used to, and I'm lucky to live in Austin where there's a few paleo restaurants and a bunch of Whole Foods. Has anyone else tried the paleo diet yet? My cousin Luke also does it, and he has abs and all (you might know him from the bachelorette LOL).

I drink coffee.
Am I eliminated?

Is your diet kosher?
I don't know anything about it.

Do you keep the dietary laws of the Council of Jerusalem?
I'm curious.

No, I don't believe that it is kosher, but you could probably make it kosher if you want to. You can have coffee :)! I wouldn't be able to make it without coffee!

Let's see.
A cave man took coffee beans off a tree, peeled the skin off them, roasted them till they were browned, somehow ground them up, then put them in a cup of boiling water, then after the full flavor came through, somehow strained the grounds away, added a dab of processed sugar and a little dairy, and voila, we have paleo coffee.
Is that how it works?

James,
Could you enlighten those of us who have never been on any diet?
What exactly do people on a paleo diet eat?

Paleo prohibits grains (oatmeal, corn, wheat), dairy (but you can have butter and heavy whipping cream), and processed sugar (organic maple syrup and coconut sugar are ok). Beans are also prohibited. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and meat is also a key aspect of the diet. For coffee, you would need to buy organic and drink it black or add some full fat coconut milk (which is delicious - try it!).

Interesting.
I doubt I could get full fat coconut milk here, but I will look for it.
I'd have a lot of questions regarding this diet and this isn't the place.
Like, for instance, you say no dairy, but ok for butter and heavy whipping cream. Heavy whipping cream IS butter, so that I get. But what could be more dairy than whipping cream?? Why would milk be more harmful than whipping cream?
And the big question always is: Will you be able to eat like this the rest of your life?

Mario Paleo sounds Italian.
I'm tellin' you. An Italian won't go for this here Paleo diet.
They have something here called the Mediterranean Diet.
You eat everything you want but a little less of it. I said a LITTLE less of it, not too much now.

Actually, this really exists but let's not derail James' thread...
