Using Windows 95 (1995) in 2013

Published on Oct 26, 2013

Windows 95 was revolutionary for its time, but can it be used in 2013? Find out here.

The tasks I got Windows 95 to preform:

1) file navigation PASS
2) write a text document PASS
3) access the internet - this did not work, see video
4) change the settings (background) HALF
5) make a password FAIL
6) play a windows 95 game called 'Hover' - this did not work, see video
7) view photos FAIL
8) view movie FAIL
9) play sound music HALF

Overall I gave Windows 95 a 3/7 for being usable in 2013 (I didn't count the ' this did not work, see video')

If you want to play hover in your browser go to www.hover.ie

This channel is about testing old Operating Systems to see if they can be used in modern times. What ancient systems can you think of, let me know and I might try them out.

windows 98

I loved Windows 98 and 98 SE, I liked ME and 2000 and XP and 7 but now I am getting very sick of Windows. I will always keep one, but I want to change my main computing to a Mac.

I had one of these too

I will probably stick with Windows, unless I can find a build of linux that will run the programs I am currently running. Also wondering how well linux does at networking.

Try Zorin Linux. It's specifically made for people transitioning from Windows and is supposed to run the most common Windows programs. As for networking, you can hardly do better than Linux.

Tog what are the OS that you have owned starting with the first up to now ?

Tog what are the OS that you have owned starting with the first up to now ?

Sinclair Spectrum (not sure what the OS was called)
Acorn Electron (not sure what the OS was called)
TOS (on Atari 1040 STFM)
Windows 3.1 (and DOS that came with it)
Windows 3.11
Windows 95
SuSE Linux
Mandrake Linux
Red Hat Linux
MacOS Tiger
MacOS Leopard
Ubuntu Linux
Apple iOS (on my iPad from work)

In addition to those, I have also used Windows 98, Windows XP and Windows 7 at work. I have a couple of friends who have Windows 8, and I've helped them with their computers (but they won't let me put Linux on their computers, so I can't help them as much as I'd like to).
