Bible Study You and/or the World ?

so who will finally decide who is being addressed at Jn 14:16-17
These matters are not for us to decide.

Romans 9:
18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

IF you believe that you have and know Gods Mercy in Christ, be glad. But understand that we do have always, a NEED for His Mercy. We rely on and continue on "in His KINDNESS." But many turn HARD against others, after receiving His Mercy themselves.

That is God, taking MERCY away from them.

Matthew 5:7
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Mercy poured like the oil of the Spirit upon the head will drip down about the body and provide HIS LIGHT to others.

Those who are stingy with it will have what little they had in their lamps, burn out.

Potentially, anything Jesus said was meant only for the audiances he was around. The things he said to the desciples, to the masses that he taught, to those healed, and to those he rebuked such as the religous leaders. Potentially each of those were meant for those who were there. Potentially anything Jesus said was meant for everyone. To teach, to encourage, to rebuke, and to lead to God. Jesus being the light, the way and the truth, everything he says should be considered valuable and worth listening as if it was said to us. Said to each of us indivually.

Without God, without Jesus, and without the Holy Spirit to help guide us all we have is ourselves and eachother. And if those around us don't have the Holy Spirit to teach us, and we don't have the Holy Spirit to guide us, then we are lost among the lost. The blind among the blind.

Everything Jesus teaches should be thought as if He is talking to us. That's my opinion. The things He says when He rebukes, the things He says when He teaches, and the things He says when He encourages. Both the believer and the unbeliever. Jesus came to save us, like a doctor comes for the sick.

That IS exactly what any disciple should "hear."
Matt. 4:4, Luke 4:4. And to that end it also means every Word of God that was spoken throughout the Bible.

This get's extremely problematic, when we encounter the resistance that we bear in our own flesh. It will resist "hearing." Gal. 5:17, Romans 7:17-21.

Bank on it!
