your thanksgiving festivities

what's going to be on your table? who's coming over for dinner?

just my parents and me, here. I'm thinking it'll be the traditional fixings--big turkey, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, etc. As much as I love the Thanksgiving turkey, I'm especially eager to get some pumpkin pie. Once Thanksgiving is over, good luck finding the necessary ingredients for pumpkin pie. It really is a once a year delicacy.

I'm an only child, and my parents' family members live way off, so its the "nuclear family unit" over the Holidays. As I've gotten older and matured a bit, I've come to appreciate Thanksgiving. Not as commercialized as Christmas, not ridiculous like Halloween. Honestly, I'm beginning to like Thanksgiving more than Christmas....although I am looking forward to the Holiday egg nog hitting the grocery shelves...

...so, what's going on in your world for Thanksgiving?

My daughter, grandson and his girlfriend coming for dinner. I will eat too much, but regrets are to be reserved for after a good meal. Our menu will follow the same destructive items as yours, and we'll have turkey left for sandwiches; in this case the hair of the dog that bit me, and I'll start my diet the following week. I'm glad you mentioned eggnog; my wife loves it.

Knowing my wife, it will be a feast. It'll start off with a cold vegetable tray with homemade veggie dip and deviled eggs. Main dinner will include turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, three or four different garden vegetables, cranberry sauce, squash, wild rice hotdish, cauliflower/broccoli salad, garden salad, fresh made dinner rolls, and I don't know what else. For dessert I think she's got a pile of different pies planned. I'm guessing so I may not list them all but here goes...

We are expecting her uncle with his wife from central Illinois as well as her cousin with his wife and two boys. We are also expecting both of our daughters with their boyfriends, one of her brothers and his girlfriend, and we also invited our neighbors and I think at least one of their boys will be here as well. We also invited one of my sisters but she already had plans. Should be quite a house full I suspect.

All I know for sure is that since about Saturday she has been in house-cleaning mode and dragging us into it. It's like we do our spring cleaning now for Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful I have a family to be with.
We'll be going to St. Augustine Florida to my granddaughters house for dinner.
Her house is right behind the Fountain of Youth.
Maybe I'll get some of it back on this visit.

I just lost 17lbs so I am going to really pig out !

Turkey, ham, lobster tails. Corn, mashed potatoes, stuffing. Pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce. Beer and spiked eggnog ! I have to work early Friday and will not have another day off for a week and half. So the plan is to make a huge meal and eat the night before and the afternoon over. This way I can drink the spirits after work the evening before.

Sadly we don't have thanksgiving. But then again who said I cannot join in on the fun. Its not turkey season but I might just cook a roast Lamb, have a few beers, and join the party. Why not.

Thanksgiving starts Wednesday night with traditionally one of the most powerful and meaningful worship services of the year. You really have to be checked out Wednesday night if this service doesn't impact your Thursday.

Two years ago, they out handed stones and sharpies on the way in. During the service, everyone wrote something significant that God had done for them at some point in their lives, and we carried them up to the altar and put them in a pile. We are building our own church after leasing for 10 years, and these stones will be worked into the foundation of the church building. Really cool.

Thursday, we'll gather at my parents who amazingly are both still with us at 85, and we'll watch the Detroit Lions lose another TG game on national TV. This year, we'll remind Vikings fans to be thankful.
