I think He gave it because we need it. Rest one day a week.
Yes Jim that is correct although the commandment says it is the 7th day of the week we are to rest on and cease from work because God made the 7th day a Holy day, not the 1st day of the week this was given to Christianity by the Mother Church.

Exodus 20
8,
Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9, Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY>
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested theSEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

This is why most of the Christian Chruch today follow the tradition of Sunday worship. It was handed down by the Mother Church............

..............

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

There is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says God's 4th commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to worship God on Sunday in it's place.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

Hope this helps...

I think He gave it because we need it. Rest one day a week.
I totally agree. While I don't believe we are under the law (for example I don't tithe but I do give according to how I purpose in my heart) I do think the concept of a Sabbath is healthy for living. So a few years ago, I picked a day (sometime Sunday, sometimes Saturday) and I rested. Sometimes that meant I napped, read, played my guitar, sat in front of the fire, sat outside on the deck, or whatever other restful things I didn't have time for during the work week. I'm retired. I still do this. I pick one day where I don't do anything work. I don't clean, I don't do laundry. I don't work in the yard (except that sometimes working in the yard/garden is my rest. Garden guys understand this). This practice has been mentally healthy for me. One day of rest, guilt free. I like it!

Hi Papa Zoom,

Big welcome here and nice to meet you. I think I said hello in the introduction section. Yes I really appreciate having the time for rest with God and look forward to it from a busy work week. We do many differnent things on God's Sabbath, from going to Church, bible study, singing praises, doing good to others. resting. Going into nature to teach the kids and to remember God's creation.

It is a real blessing and special time God hs given to mankind :study

Thanks for your thoughts and for sharing. I appreciated your post.

Yes it is by faith.....

These are nations that have fallen in last 100 years because they turned against Israel

FRUIT OF FAITH AND REJECTING GOD’S WORD

What is SIN?

James 2
8, If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:
9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, YOU ARE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW

James is pretty clear if we brake ANY of God's Law (10 commandments) then we are a TRANSGRESSOR of God's LAW

links to...........

1 John 3
4 Whosoever commits SIN transgresses also the law: for SIN is the transgression of the law.
John is in agreement with James and states that if we TRANSGRESS God's LAW then we commit SIN because SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF GOD'S LAW. So it is very clear that SIN is breaking ANY of God's LAW (10 commandments)

Romans 7

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known SIN, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Well here we have Paul in agreement with James and John also telling us that SIN is breaking God's commandments and uses the 10th commandment as an example of breaking any of God's LAW (10 commandments) = SIN (Exodus 20:17)

Links to............

Romans 3

20, Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN.

Once again Paul is in agreement with John and James which all agree together that if we break any of God's LAW (10 commandments) we commit SIN because as James, John and Paul all agree together that SIN is breaking ANY of God's 10 commandments

Rejecting God’s Word………….

Hebrews 10
26,
For if we SIN wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for SINS,
27, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Matthew 7
13,
Enter ye in at the STRAIT GATE: for WIDE is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to DESTRUCTION, and MANY there be which go in thereat:
14, Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW THERE BE THAT FIND IT.
15, Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16, YE SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17, Even so every good tree bringeth forth GOOD FRUIT; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth EVIL FRUIT.
18, A good tree cannot bring forth EVIL FRUIT, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth GOOD FRUIT.
19, Every tree that bringeth not forth GOOD FRUIT is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20, Wherefore BY THEIR FRUITS YOU SHALL KNOW THEM.
21, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; BUT HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.
22, Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23, And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: DEPART FORM ME YOU WHO WORK INIQUITY(SIN)

6, Whosoever abideth in him sins not: WHOSOEVER SINS HAS NOT SEEN HIM OR KNOWS HIM.
7, Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8, He that committeth sin is of the devil;

Bringing it all together………..

Only those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW him who is calling them are his people because they hear the voice of him who loves them and is calling them.

These are those who BELIEVE His Word and through FAITH that works by LOVE keep all the commandments of God through Faith in Jesus (1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:3-9; James 2:8-12; Rev 12:17; 14:12: 22:14).

Those who do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW him are NOT his people and do not KNOW HIM or trust in HIM for salvation because the FRUIT of their FAITH is not the OBEDIENCE of LOVE (James 2:18; 20; 27; 1 John 3:6-8).

If your FAITH does not have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE then you are still in your SINS and do not KNOW him who is calling you. SIN is the transgression of God's LAW (10 commandments) if you break ANY one of them you stand guilty before God in SIN and need to seek him in REPENTANCE and FORGIVENESS. Please read; James 2:18; 20; 26; Matthew 7:13-23; 1 John 3:6-8; 1 John 3:4; James 2:8-12.

If your tree does not bear the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE is will be cast down and thrown into the fire (Matthew 7:13-23)

Those practicing SIN do NOT KNOW him who is calling them. Those who are ignorant God winks at but when a knowledge of the truth is come calls all men everywhere to repent for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at hand.

For if we SIN wilfully after that we have received the KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH, there remaineth no more sacrifice for SINS, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

COLOSSIANS 2:14-17 PART 1 THE REAL TRUTH

The above scripture is used by the “many” to distance themselves from Gods weekly Sabbath day of the 4th commandment. This is for those that may be interested in learning the real meaning of the scriptures and not that of those leading others to break the commandments of God to follow the traditions and teachings of man over the Word of God. So, what is Col. 2{16} really talking about.?

Let's use the scriptures interpret scripture.............................

COL. 2 [16]
Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an HOLYDAY, or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAY(S) <plural>:

EZEKIEL 45 [17] And it shall be the prince's part to give BURNT OFFERINGS, and MEAT OFFERINGS, and DRINK OFFERINGS, in the FEASTS, and in the NEW MOONS, and in the SABBATH(S), in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.

Here’s a scripture, same exact order as Col 2{16}, meat, drink, holy days (feast days), new moons, Sabbath(s). No doubt what so ever these 2 scriptures are speaking of the same thing. See how that on those days there was a sin offering made. The blood of Christ is now that offering. Col.2 and Ezekiel 45 are simply speaking of the meat and drink offerings which were written in the Mosaic law contained within the ordinances which were to take place on Gods annual festivals, new moons and His annual ceremonial Sabbath days and Holy convocations (Leviticus 23).

HEBREWS 13 [9] Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be ESTABLISHED WITH GRACE; NOT WITH MEATS, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. [10] We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. [11] For THE BODIES OF THOSE BEASTS, WHOSE BLOOD is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. [12] WHEREFORE JESUS ALSO, THAT HE MIGHT SANCTIFY THE PEOPLE WITH HIS OWN BLOOD, suffered without the gate.

But now we are no longer under the Mosaic laws concerning the meat and drink offerings of Gods holy days, new moons and annual festival sabbaths and holy convocations. Jesus fulfilled the law. We are now under grace.

JOHN 6 [53] Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. [54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. [55] For MY FLESH IS MEAT INDEED, and MY BLOOD IS DRINK INDEED.

When we let scripture interpret scripture it’s very clear what Col.2 is speaking about. The meat and drink offerings of those days are no longer to be kept and no one is to judge you for not keeping them because they were shadows pointing to Jesus.

NUMBERS 28 [9] And on the Sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a MEAT OFFERING, mingled with oil, and the DRINK OFFERING thereof: [10] This is the burnt offering of EVERY SABBATH, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

There’s the meat and drink offerings for the monthly and annual festival sabbath days that Col.2 [16] was speaking of. This was not a weekly requirement for the 4th commandment of God’s Law (Exodus 20:8-11)

EZEKIEL 46 [6] And in the day of the NEW MOON it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish. [7] And he shall prepare a MEAT OFFERING, an ephah for a bullock, and an ephah for a ram, and for the lambs according as his hand shall attain unto, and an hin of oil to an ephah.

The meat offering for the new moon that was spoken of in Col.2 [16].

LEVITICUS 23 [4] These are THE FEASTS OF THE LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. [5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is THE LORD'S PASSOVER. [6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the Lord: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread…… [13] And the MEAT OFFERING thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the DRINK OFFERING thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.

In all the feast days (holy days) meat and drink offerings were written into the laws of commandments contained in the ordinances. The above scripture points out the holy day of Passover when Jesus was crucified.

HEBREWS 9 [1] Then verily THE FIRST COVENANT HAD ALSO ORDINANCES of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.... [9] WHICH WAS A FIGURE for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;[10] WHICH STOOD ONLY IN MEATS AND DRINKS, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.[12] NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, BUT BY HIS OWN BLOOD he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Once again, the 1st covenant had ordinances which stood only in meat and drinks which were a figure! A shadow!

EPH.2 [15] HAVING ABOLISHED in his flesh the enmity, even the LAW OF COMMANDMENTS CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;[16] And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

COL. 2 [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; [14] BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

ISAIAH 24 [5] The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, CHANGED THE ORDINANCE, broken the everlasting covenant.[6] Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.

But in this “Day of the Lord” scripture it seems the many will go on believing what they’ve been taught by their sunday mourning pulpiteers. They will continue to believe the commandments mentioned in Eph.2 and Col. 2 are the 10 commandments and not the law of commandments contained in the ordinances

The “many” claim that the sabbath was the shadow of Christ. But what do the scriptures say

COL.2 [14] BLOTTING OUT THE HANDWRITING OF ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;[15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.[16] Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:[17] WHICH ARE A SHADOW OF THINGS TO COME; but the body is of Christ.

To be continued...................

COLOSSIANS 2:14-17 PART 2 THE REAL TRUTH

COL. 2:14 and EPH 2. 15
What is the meaning of the handwriting of “ORDINANCES” that was blotted out and nailed to the cross?

GREEK meaning; blotting out (G1813; ἐξαλείφω; exaleiphō; ex-al-i'-fo; means to obliterate; erase; wipe away) the handwriting of ordinances which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way nailing it to the cross. The Greek words used here is handwriting G5498 χειρόγραφον; cheirographon; which means; hand written legal document which is combined with ordinance G1378 δόγμα dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380; which means; civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical law: - decree; The Greek meaning of handwriting of ordinances in V14 is a hand written legal document or book of civil, ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws. These are the laws referred to in verse 14 that have been erased and are nailed to the cross.

The handwriting of ORDINANCES {Mosaic laws for meat and drink offerings and annual festivals that have their fulfilment in Jesus} has been blotted out. They were the shadows. They were all prophetic in nature, teaching the plan of salvation which pointing to Jesus as the true lamb of God and our great high priest and His Work on our behalf in the Heavenly Sanctuary. (Leviticus 1; 3-12; 14-17; 22-23; Number 6-8; 15; 28-29; Deut 12; 33; Ex 25:8; John 1:29; 36; Rev 5:6; 1Cor 5:6-7; Heb 8:2-13; 9:1-28)

The first covenant had ORDINANCES which stood ONLY in meat and drink offerings which were a figure. A shadow

EZEKIEL 46 [14] And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a MEAT OFFERING continually by a perpetual ORDINANCE unto the LORD.

Meat offering by ordinance. There ya go. Hebrews 9 was ofcourse correct

HEBREWS 10 [1] For THE LAW HAVING A SHADOW of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with THOSE SACRIFICES WHICH THEY OFFERED YEAR BY YEAR continually make the comers thereunto perfect.[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.[3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.[4] For IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS SHOULD TAKE AWAY SINS.

Hebrews 10 says it all. The shadow of the law was the offerings (the meat and drink offerings). Hebrews 10{1} says that plain and clear. The Word does not say the Sabbath was the shadow of Christ which really makes no sense at all

NUMBERS 19 [2] This is the ORDINANCE OF THE LAW which the Lord hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke:

Before Christ the red heifers lived their lives in fear and trembling, thinking they might be next offering. No worries no more.

JOHN 6 [55] For my flesh is MEAT indeed, and my blood is DRINK indeed.

We are no longer under the law concerning the meat and drink offerings {the shadow}. Jesus FULFILLED that portion of the law. Its all grace now! Jesus Himself said “For my flesh is MEAT indeed, and my blood is DRINK indeed”.

COLOSSIANS 2:14-17 PART 3 THE REAL TRUTH

COL. 2 [16]
Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an HOLYDAY, or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAYS:

Col.2 {16} is used by all Sunday morning denominations so as to rid themselves of Gods Sabbath day. It’s also used to go against Gods laws concerning eating unclean things such as the portly porker. Can their doctrines be found in the scriptures by looking at the followers of the RISEN Christ?

ACTS 17 [2] AND PAUL, AS HIS MANNER WAS, went in unto them, and three SABBATH DAYS reasoned with them out of the scriptures,[3] Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

Paul as his manner was... still keeping the Sabbath…………………..

ACTS 10 [11] And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: [12] Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. [13] And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. [14] BUT PETER SAID, NOT SO, LORD; FOR I HAVE NEVER EATEN ANY THING THAT IS COMMON OR UNCLEAN.

Peter refused to eat the unclean thing even after the risen Christ………………..

ACTS 10 [28] And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but GOD HATH SHEWED ME THAT I SHOULD NOT CALL ANY MAN COMMON OR UNCLEAN.

Verse 28 explains the great sheet. No man is now unclean…………………………….

JOEL 1 [13] Gird yourselves, and lament, YE PRIESTS: howl, YE MINISTERS of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for THE MEAT OFFERING AND THE DRINK OFFERING IS WITHHOLDEN FROM THE HOUSE OF YOUR GOD. [14] Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord, [15] Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Doesn’t look good for some, come the Day of the Lord.

NUMBERS 18 [8] And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given thee the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto thee have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to thy sons, BY AN ORDINANCE for ever.[9] This shall be thine of the most holy things, reserved from the fire: EVERY OBLATION of theirs, EVERY MEAT OFFERING of theirs, and EVERY SIN OFFERING of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs, which they shall render unto me, shall be most holy for thee and for thy sons.

Above scripture confirms that the offerings are also called oblations

ISAIAH 1 [10] Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.[11] To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I AM FULL OF THE BURNT OFFERINGS of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.[12] When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?[13] BRING NO MORE VAIN OBLATIONS; incense is an abomination unto me; THE NEW MOONS AND SABBATHS, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.[14] Your new moons and your APPOINTED FEASTS my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

Bring no more vain oblations in the new moons and the monthly and annual ceremonial Sabbath feast days. WHY? Because Jesus nailed these offerings (oblations) to the cross. The 10 commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) were never nailed to the cross only our sins were through Jesus and the ceremonial laws of Moses that were used for the forgiveness of sins along with the feast days that pointed to the life, death, resurrection and ministration of Jesus as the lamb of God and our great High Priest in the Heavenly Sanctuary.

HEBREWS 10 [7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. [8] Above when he said, SACRIFICE AND OFFERING AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERING FOR SIN THOU WOULDEST NOT, NEITHER HADST PLEASURE THEREIN; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW; [9] Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. HE TAKETH AWAY THE FIRST, WHICH HE MAY ESTABLISH THE SECOND. [10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. [11] And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: [12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Hebrews 10 explains exactly what Isaiah 1 was speaking about. He takes away the 1st covenant {the meat and drink offerings} and established the 2nd covenant {the body of Christ}

The new covenant is all about the blood of Christ. Not changing the law....but fulfilling the law

COLOSSIANS 2:14-17 PART 4 THE REAL TRUTH

The new covenant is all about the blood of Christ. Not changing the law....but fulfilling the law

ZECH.9 [9] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, THY KING COMETH UNTO THEE: HE IS JUST, AND HAVING SALVATION; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.[10] And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.[11] As for thee also, BY THE BLOOD OF THY COVENANT I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water

Verse 9 definitely prophecies of the coming Jesus. Verse 11, Jesus is called the blood of thy covenant

HEBREWS 12 [23] To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,[24] And to Jesus THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT, AND TO THE BLOOD of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

New covenant...blood

LUKE 22 [19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. [20] Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, THIS CUP IS THE NEW TESTAMENT IN MY BLOOD, which is shed for you.

New testament...blood

HEBRE WS 9 [1] Then verily THE FIRST COVENANT HAD ALSO ORDINANCES of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.

Old covenant...blood of goats.....The meat and drink offerings. There is that word “ordinance” (dogma) being used again which means; civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical Mosaic laws: that were written in the book (Ephesians 2:15 and Colossians 2:14)

HEBREWS [4] FOR IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS SHOULD TAKE AWAY SINS.[5] Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.[7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.[8] Above when he said, sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;[9] Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. HE TAKETH AWAY THE FIRST THAT HE MAY ESTABLISH THE SECOND.

He taketh away the first {covenant}, that he may establish the second.

JOHN 6 [53] [54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. [55] For MY FLESH IS MEAT INDEED, and MY BLOOD IS DRINK INDEED.

And there’s the 2nd……………….

MATTHEW 5 [17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. [18] For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Jesus did not come to change or destroy the God's Law (10 commandments). The Sabbath is still to be kept. He came to fulfill what was written of Him in the books of the law and the requirements of God's LAW (10 commandments)

There is much more to share on this topic but we will stop here for now........

May God bless you as you seek Jesus through HIS Word.....

COLOSSIANS 2:14-17 PART 5 THE REAL TRUTH

Lets now look at the within CHAPTER AND WITHIN SCRIPTURE COTEXT of Colossains 2:16.............

Colossians 2:14-17,
14,
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15, And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath(s):
17, which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Colossians 2:14
Let’s start with the context of Colossians 2:16-17. The context is verse 14 which is the blotting out (G1813; ἐξαλείφω; exaleiphō; ex-al-i'-fo; means to obliterate; erase; wipe away) the handwriting of ordinances which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way nailing it to the cross.

The next question we need to consider is what is the handwriting of ordinances that are to be erased and nailed to the cross?

The Greek words used here is handwriting G5498 χειρόγραφον; cheirographon; which means; hand written legal document which is combined with ordinance G1378 δόγμα dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380; which means; civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical law: - decree;

The Greek meaning of handwriting of ordinances in V14 is a hand written legal document or book of civil, ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws. These are the laws referred to in verse 14 that have been erased and are nailed to the cross.

What is the legal written document or book (handwriting of ordinances) that includes the civil, ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws referring to?

There was two sets of laws that were given to God’s people in the Old Testament scriptures.

(1) God’s Law (10 commandments) pointed out what sin was and the penalty of sin which is death. It was never a cure for sin in the Old Testament as well as in the New. It only gives a knowledge of what sin is and righteousness (right doing) (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4; Rom 6:23; Ps 119:172).

(2) The laws of Moses was the second set of laws and included all the civil, ceremonial, and ecclesiastical laws. These laws could not tell you what sin was this was the job of God’s Law, however the laws of Moses were the prescriptive cure for sin in the Old Covenant. These laws included all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, sacrificial burnt offerings for sin, annual festivals and earthly sanctuary services for sin. These laws were the cure for sin so the sinner could be made right with God. These where all prophetic in nature, teaching the plan of salvation which pointing to Jesus as the true lamb of God and our great high priest and His Work on our behalf in the Heavenly Sanctuary. (Leviticus 1; 3-12; 14-17; 22-23; Number 6-8; 15; 28-29; Deut 12; 33; Ex 25:8; John 1:29; 36; Rev 5:6; 1Cor 5:6-7; Heb 8:2-13; 9:1-28)

From the above it can be seen that God’s Law was written on stone and the laws of Moses in a book. God’s Law is forever and only points out what sin is but was never a cure for sin (Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4; Rom 6:23).

The laws of Moses for remission of SIN included all the ceremonial and ecclesiastical laws that were the cure for sin with all the sin offerings and earthly Sanctuary services, annual festivals and sin offerings which were prophetic in nature and temporary pointing to the life, death, resurrection of Jesus and his role as the true lamb of God and your great high priest to atone for our sins (John 1:29; 36; Rev 5:6; 1Cor 5:6-7; Heb 8:2-13; 9:1-28). The handwriting of ordinances (ceremonial laws and ordinances written in a book) is referring to the ceremonial, ecclesiastical laws of Moses which included the Jewish annual festivals and sin offerings that pointed to Jesus.

Why were the ceremonial laws of Moses (handwriting of ordinances) nailed to the cross?

Jesus was our true sacrifice for our sins and the saviour of the world that the ceremonial laws of Moses all pointed to. When Jesus came and died the old Covenant laws of Moses that pointed to Jesus and the plan of salvation was fulfilled (John 1:29; 36; Rev 5:6; 1Cor 5:6-7; Heb 8:2-13; 9:1-28). Jesus is our true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and our sacrifice for our sins. It is our sins as well as the ceremonial laws of Moses that were nailed to the cross at the death of Jesus (Col 2:14; John 3:16).

Colossians 2:14 is the context of Colossians 2:16-17. The context is that all the ceremonial laws of Moses pointing to the plan of salvation and Jesus have been fulfilled and nailed to the cross and along with our sins, if we accept Jesus as our true Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world (John 1:29). We are no longer under the Old Covenant laws of Moses. These do not include God’s Law which is forever (Ecc 3:14).

(1) CONTEXT of COL 2:16 is v14. is talking about the Mosaic laws for remission of sin that were shadows pointing to Jesus; not the ten commandments of God’s Law. Nowhere are the 10 commandments mentioned in Col chapter 2.

v11-13 Shadows of Mosaic laws of circumcision of the new heart in Christ

14, BLOTTING OUT < G1813 ἐξαλείφω exaleipho (ex-a-lei'-fō) v. means to rub out, i.e. obliterate, erase> the HANDWRITING < G5498 χειρόγραφον cheirographon (chei-ro'-gra-fon) n. means something hand-written (“chirograph”), i.e. a manuscript specially, a legal document > of ORDINANCES < G1378 δόγμα dogma (d̮og'-ma) n. means ordinance; civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical > that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

v20, Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, v21, Touch not; taste not; handle not; v22, Which all are to perish with the using; after the commandments and doctrines of men?

CONTEXT of the CHAPTER is the CEREMONIAL Mosaic laws contained in ORDINANCES written in the book of Moses for remission of sin that are shadows pointing to Jesus and nailed to the cross with our sins. This is further highlighted that at the death of Jesus the temple vail was torn in two meaning the END of the Mosaic ceremonial laws for remission of SINS as these were fulfilled in Christ (Matthew 27:51).

Let's now look at the WITHIN SCRIPTURE CONTEXT of Colossians 2:16..........

Further proof that Col 2:16 is talking about the annual Jewish festivals and Mosaic laws for remission of sin? Let’s look at the subject matter of v16

(2) WITHIN SCRIPTURE CONTEXT v16 is (1) meat, or in drink, or in (2) respect of an holyday, or of the (3) new moon, or of the (4) sabbath days (plural)

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in (1) meat, or in drink, or in (2) respect of an holyday, or of the (3) new moon, or of the (4) sabbath days (plural):

Compare Col 2:16 with the annual Jewish festivals from the Mosic laws for remission of sin...

Ezekiel 45
17, And it shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, and (1) meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the (2) feasts, and in the (3) new moons, and in the sabbaths <Plural>, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.
18, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the first month, in the first day of the month, thou shalt take a young bullock without blemish, and cleanse the sanctuary:
19, And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering, and put it upon the posts of the house, and upon the four corners of the settle of the altar, and upon the posts of the gate of the inner court.
20, And so thou shalt do the seventh day of the month for every one that erreth, and for him that is simple: so shall ye reconcile the house.
21, In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the (2) passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.

All CONTEXT and points 1-4 match perfectly to the Annual Jewish festivals detailed in both scriptures; also detailed in Leviticus 23; (1) meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the (2) feasts, and in the (3) new moons, and in the sabbaths <Plural>

So what is Colossains 2:14:16 referring to...................

CONCLUSION

Very clearly Col 2 and v16 both CHAPTER AND WITHIN SCRIPTURE CONTEXT is referring to the ceremonial Mosaic laws for remission of sin which includes ANNUAL FESTIVAL SABBATH'S that can fall on any day of the week; New Moons and Meat and Drink offering’s which are all linked in context to the Jewish annual festivals of the Old Testament (Leviticus 23). The Mosaic laws for remission of SIN were Shadows pointing to Jesus and the plan of salvation. Colossians 2 is NOT talking about God's LAW (10 commandments) being ABOLISHED. This also includes the 4th commandment which of course is one of the 10 commandments (Exodus 20:8-11)

IF one is going to keep sabbath i do hope they use a Jewish calendar
Hi Reba,

VERY HAPPY NEW YEARS to you and your family for 2018 from Australia mate! Nice to meet you and thanks for dropping by. Yes the Hebrew Calander is needed for those who believe in practicing the annual festivals including the special festival Sabbaths that could fall on any day of the week. The weekly however is simply every 7th day according to God's time (evening and morning = a day Gen 1:5) which is Friday evening to Saturaday evening.

God bless you sister and thanks for sharing

IF we are to keep one don' t we need to keep them all ..
Jas_2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

IF we are to keep one don' t we need to keep them all ..
Jas_2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Absolutely, Great scripture you quoted reba, lets look at the context as well in the surrounding scriptures...

James 2
8,
If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF, ye do well:
9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10, FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW AND YET OFFEND IN ONE POINT, HE SHALL BE GUILTY OF ALL.
11, FOR HE THAT SAID, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY SAID ALSO DO NOT KILL. NOW IF YOU DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY AND YOU KILL, YOU HAVE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW.
12, So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

This is the new Covenant of LOVE and the operation of GOD in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW Him who calls them....

Hebrews 8
10,
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people

This is in reference to the OT scriptures of the NEW Covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 36:24-27

LOVE is the POWER of FAITH in those who BELIEVE God's WORD. OBEDIENCE is the FRUIT of FAITH as it is written by Jesus when he is quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18.

Matthew 22
36,
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37, Jesus said unto him, (1) Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38, This is the first and great commandment.
39, And the second is like unto it, (2) Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40, ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPEHTS

OBEDIENCE is the FRUIT of LOVE that works by FAITH in those who BELIEVE...

and again..........

Romans 13
8, Owe no man any thing, but to LOVE ONE ANOTHER: for HE THAT LOVES ANOTHER HAS FULFILLED THE LAW.
9, For this, THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, THOU SHALT NOT KILL, THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, THOU SHALT NOT LIE, THOU SHALT NOT COVET; and IF THERE SHALL BE ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.
10, Love works no ill to his neighbour: therefore LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.

On these TWO COMMANDMENTS hand ALL THE LAW and the Prophets. LOVE is the FULFILLING of God's LAW written on the HEART to those whoi BELIEVE. Who walk not by FAITH and not by sight IN HIS SPIRIT to LOVE as hw FIRST LOVED US. (Romans 8:1-4).

If we do not have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE that works by LOVE through FAITH then we are not FOLLOWING him who is calling us because we are still in our SINS. Those who practice SIN do not as yet KNOW him who LOVES them.

He is calling ALL who hear HIS voice to come and be FREE to LOVE. Many are called but few are chosen. God's sheep hear his VOICE (the Word) and FOLLOW HIM and KNOW HIM because he bids them COME. He is the true Shepard of His Sheep and his Sheep hear his Voice.

...........

Hope this helps..

Which all? Even breaking the speed limit is breaking God's law?
Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Rom 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
2Co 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, . . . was to be done away :shrug

If you look at the LAW you will be condemned as God's LAW (10 commandments) is the mirror that shows us what SIN is and RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20). If you go to where Gods LAW leads you then you can be FREE indeed to LOVE and FOLLOW him who is calling you. (Matthew 8:31-36)

Jesus says; They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick, but go ye and learn what that means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Matthew 9:12-13). Many do not know the meaning becayse they have lost their mirror that shows the way.

If your mirror is lost or broken how can you find your way when the road is dark and narrow?

We are only saved by GRACE throough FAITH and not of OURSELVES it is a GIFT of GOD and NOT of WORKS lest ANY mand should boast (Ephesians 2:8)

If you BELIEVE him who is calling you then you can WALK on water. If you do not BELIEVE you will sink in the ocean.

Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

God's rest is in BELIEVING and FOLLOWING his WORD. Those that do NOT BELIEVE and FOLLOW his WORD are UNBELIEVERS. Hebrews 3 and 4 is in reference to those that did not ENTER INTO GOD'S SABBATH rest because of their UNBELIEF.

Hebrews 4:9 (NAS)
There remaineth therefore a Sabbath rest G4520 to the people of God.

The Greek word literally means “Sabbath keeping” or “Sabbath observance.” (links below)

Strong's Concordance 4520 sabbatismos:
a sabbath rest Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine Transliteration: sabbatismos Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Short Definition: a Sabbath rest; Definition: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

Strong's Greek 4520
; σαββατισμὸς — 1 Occ.
Hebrews 4:9N-NMS GRK: ἄρα ἀπολείπεται σαββατισμὸς τῷ λαῷ
NAS: there remains a Sabbath rest for the people
KJV: therefore a rest to the people
INT: Then remains a sabbath rest to the people

Thayer's Greek Lexicon STRONGS NT 4520: σαββατισμός
σαββατισμός, σαββατισμου, ὁ (σαββατίζω to keep the sabbath); 1. a keeping sabbath. 2. the blessed rest from toils and troubles looked for in the age to come by the true worshippers of God and true Christians (R. V. sabbath rest): Hebrews 4:9. (Plutarch, de superstit. c. 3; ecclesiastical writings.)

The context is God’s rest from the week of creation on the 7th Day of the creation week (Heb 4:1-5). Those that did not enter into God’s rest (7th Day Sabbath) did not enter in because of their unbelief and disobedience (sins) to God’s Word. The Gospel was preached unto them but they did not believe it (Heb 4:2). God did not give them His true rest (Heb 4:5-8). This is the same warning for those that disobey Him and do not follow His Word. Only those that believe and obey God’s Word enter into his 7th Day Sabbath rest (Heb 4:6, 9, 10-12). So you can see Jesus is not a Sabbath. The Sabbath is the 7th Day of the Week. Jesus is Lord of this Day because he is the creator of this day (Heb 4:4; Mark 2:28).

There is no scripture in all of God’s Word that says that Jesus is a Sabbath only that he is the Lord of the Sabbath and he made it for all of mankind and commands us to keep it as a holy day as a memorial of creation (Mark 2:27-28; Gen 2:1-3; Ex 20:8-11) It is one of the 10 Commandments written on stone and spoken by God himself (Exodus 20)

2Co 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, . . . was to be done away :shrug

God's LAW is the MINISTRATION OF DEATH because the penalty for breaking God's LAW (10 Commandments is DEATH (Romans 6:23) BUT the GIFT of GOD is ETERNAL LIFE in those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW him who is calling them. It is not God's LAW that is to be done away with but our SINS and the penalty for our SINS in those who BELIEVE but if you CHOOSE DARKNESS rather then LIGHT because your deeds are EVIL (SIN) then you are still in your SINS and and will not be saved because you have not BELIEVED and FOLLOWED him who LOVES YOU (John 3:16-21)

...............

The 4th Commandment is God’s LAW not the law of Moses. It is God’s Word that says if anyone brakes any of the 10 Commandments they stand guilty before God in SIN. Why would it do harm to your neighbor if it leads your neighbor to REPENTANCE and CONFESSION of SIN in order to LOVE God?

SIN is the transgression of God’s LAW if any brake it they stand guilty before God in SIN. IT is SIN that will keep all who practice it OUT of God’s Kingdom. Is it not our duty of LOVE to God and our fellow man to preach the Gospel to help our fellow man to get ready for the Kingdom of Heaven?

Could I suggest you read Ezekiel 3:17-21?

Really JLB you must have missed post # 46 linked that was addressed to you showing the new testament scriptures on Jesus teaching us how to keep God’s Sabbath? No need to comment further take a look at the link.

Post # 70 is the latest with all the scriptures looking at all the versus and context for Romans 14
Acts 15 has also been addressed already in post # 5 and later again in post # 57 with scriptures. You may wish to have a read.

Did you have anything new to share?

See post # 13 linked for your ease of travel.

This is addressed already but I will look to make a more detailed thread discussion on this topic latter if I get some time.

What would help, would be that you post the New Testament scriptures as I have asked you, that teach us how the Sabbath is to be observed today.

I have given you Romans 14 with the context of the commandments being addressed starting in Romans 13 in which the commandments are seen as expressions of faith working by love so as not to do harm to our neighbor which, as Paul points out in Romans 14 is making the observance of one day over another is up to each individual and not to be judged just as eating certain foods is.

Paul reiterates this in Colossians and teaches us about letting people judge us concerning sabbaths or special days which all point to and have their substance in Christ.

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:16-17

Again the law of Moses taught that the Sabbath was to be observed with strict rules and guidelines, of which if a person was so much as to pick up sticks to start a fire, they were to be put to death.

If you believe we are to keep the Sabbath according to Moses law, the please show an example of this in the New Testament.

Any other scripture from the OT will be just reiterating what the law of Moses required, unless it's from Genesis.

Finally I have shown from the scriptures where the weekly Sabbath rest points us to when Christ returns and removes all our enemies and gives us rest with glorified resurrected bodies that contain no sin, in which it constantly at war with the Spirit.

This will occur on the last prophetic Day which will be the 7th thousandth Year from Adam.

4 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh dayin this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains that some mustenter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
Hebrews 4:1-10

  • For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh dayin this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

I beleive a little recent history might help enlighten our heritage.......
Until recently, 40-50 years ago among Christians keeping sabbath has only been a discussion of
whether to keep it or not ....
Before that it was usually asdiscussion of WHICH day to keep,Sabbath....either sat. Or sunday

I remember some Blue Laws as a child in the south......diminished in the 70s and 80s......
My papa was a strict sabbath keeper on Sunday....never worked.......on sunday.....
CHristians from the 1st century have been strict Sabbath keepers.....(sunday)
PIlgrims were strict Sabbath Sunday keepers......
Did anyone see CHARIOTS OF FIRE......
That was common practice for most Christians 100 years ago......

It could be said that we are the first or second generation since Christ to question the keeping of the Sabbath day ??????
