Zech 12:10 New Birth before Faith !

Zech 12:10

10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

It appears clear from this text that faith to look to see the Son Jn 6:40 and godly sorrow unto repentance 2 Cor 7:10, that these are the effects of the Spirit being poured out upon them in regeneration and new birth which we are saved by like stated in Titus 3:5-6

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed [poured] on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

Faith , Blessings of His Death !

The Blessings of Christ death for those He did die for and in behalf of, will cause them to believe in Him, For believing in Christ is given to them He died for, on His Behalf Phil 1:29. God makes them believe as promised here Zep 3:12

12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.

And Romans 15:12

12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

Or in Him shall the gentiles seek as in Faith. The word Trust is the same word hope as in Heb 11:1,6

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Grammatically it's objective genitive, that is: the faith of Jesus Christ = faith in Jesus Christ.
savedbygrace57, brother, are you still keeping this thread going? Seems like I posted a few times in this thread YEARS ago.

I have come to a conclusion on this issue and if anyone has the patience to read it all, here it is in a pretty big nutshell:

Strictly speaking, Farouk is right: The Greek word here is genitive. I'm no Greek scholar, but I did look pretty deeply into this specific issue, and it is true that no distinction can be made based on the grammar itself. But, that doesn't mean we are right to just plop "faith in Christ" in every location without thought.

I agree with SBG57 that the KJ translators got this right (as did Darby, Wycliffe, the Geneva and all the others prior to the ASV in 1901). But it can't be determined by grammar alone. We need to make an inference. I make that inference based on a couple of things:
-----------------------------------------------

1.) Gal 2:16 uses the phrase 3 times. It doesn’t make much sense to me when I read that verse with “faith in Christ†3 times: (from the NIV, …shiver…)

know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified. (Gal 2:16)

This just doesn’t make sense. It says that we “put our faith in Christ so we can be justified by faith in Christ.â€

It’s like saying, “I put my money in the bank so that I could put my money in the bank.â€

(not to mention that I loathe the phrase, “put our/my/your faith in Christâ€, but that’s for another thread.)
-----------------------------------------------

2.) Combine this with the fact that Christ DID have faith... wherewith he performed His work perfectly for our justification.
And
-----------------------------------------------

3.) Christ (who is God) Gifts faith to His saints. (Ephesians 2:8) So any faith we have was originally His.
-----------------------------------------------

4.) Compare this verse in two versions:

For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? (Romans 3:3 KJV)

What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? (Romans 3:3 NIV)

Even the NIV translators couldn’t pull a switcheroo on that verse.
-----------------------------------------------

5.) I also recognize that Christ’s righteousness is imputed to us. I believe that His faith is likewise imputed. Again, these are inferences. He gives us His faith, He gives us righteousness. One thing I haven’t looked into is if the same genitive form is used to describe our righteousness in Christ. Then (according to the modern translator paradigm) we could rightly call it “our righteousnessâ€, and never once ascribe it to Christ.
-----------------------------------------------

6.) The NET bible, while quite modern, is useful because of all of its notes. It too, renders "faith OF Christ". I mention this point last because it is the least, but still, it helped tilt the scales for me on this issue.
-----------------------------------------------

Anyway, It does have to be determined by inference, but I’m personally convinced that the phase “faith of Christ†is correct.

Those not chosen by God. They're just unlucky?
Rant alert! Rant alert! Warning… Rant approaching at twelve O'clock!

Don't take the rant personally, it's just a general rant.

Paul already knew folks would ask that question:

18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? 20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? (Romans9:18-21)

God here is basically saying, "Yeah, I chose some and not others, got a problem with that, pip-squeak?"
(HisSheep condensed translation 2013) :)

The unregenerate would hate Heaven, just as they hate God and hate church on earth. Before I was reborn, I didn't want God either, just like it says:

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (Ephesians 2:3)

Worldlings hate God. They crucified Christ then, and they'd do it again now if they had the chance. They tried to kill Him a number of times before He actually let them do it. Just you walk out into the streets today and start preaching Christ. See how much the world loves you for it. See how much they want your God then. Got any unconverted family members? Ever tell them that without Christ they will die in their sins? How'd it go?

No matter how carefully you broach the subject you’re likely to get an equally forceful rejection.

If you politely invite them to church, they’ll politely say no thanks. If you politely ask them a few times in six month period, they’ll say, “back off, okay… I told you I tried that church stuff and it’s not for me…”

If you’re more persistent, they’ll get plain pissed off.

If you try to dissuade them from mysticism Or Eastern philosophy or some other “spirituality”, they’ll dig their heels in deeper.

The world loves a temperate Christian. They love a luke-warm Christian who keeps his faith to himself. Who sits in the corner and reads his bible and gives to the food bank. They love a "Sunday Christian". But just try standing up and saying, "I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ". "He is the only way. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life!"

If you tell folks you "go to church on Sunday and stuff", and leave it at that, then they love that kind of god... If you actually tell them that you don’t really believe, but you think it’s good for the kids to get some morality, and besides, what if there really is a God, then you’ll be covered, ‘cause you went to church. They’ll slap you on the back! They’ll hardily approve of that! “Right on, brother!”

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (John 15:19)

But tell them you also go to a couple of bible studies a week and you’re not really interested in television anymore. You don’t care much for sports and drinking and swearing, and you don’t laugh anymore at their “wife jokes”. You don’t want them to forward their raunchy emails. Pop in a Gospel CD, instead of the rock you used to listen to. Tell them you’ve been going to the nursing home and the hospice in your spare time to reading the bible to dying people, holding their hands and praying with them. See if they want to join you. They’ll tell you you’re crazy. Even some who love you will tell you that they’re concerned that you’re taking this “religion thing” too far. The bible basically says that if “the world” approves of your Christian walk, then you are not doing it right.

Ever feel the urge to suppress your Christian faith because others won’t approve? Ever feel the shame of Christ? Better turn those hymns down. Better not pray here. Better not tell so and so about you know who…

Get yourself a fist full of bible tracts and head into the city. Then you'll see how much those "unlucky" people feel left out. They’ll spit on you. They’ll laugh at you. They’ll mock you like they mocked Christ on the Cross. We are told to bear that very same cross. Someone must be there to mock you, so you can “count it all joy”.

Just as God planned that Israel would be surrounded by heathen nations, so are Christians surrounded by heathen people. God has planned a walk for Christians that involves them being surrounded by people who hate God and hate Christians.

I pray that they will see. But scripture confirms that only a few will; all the others HATE God.

Faith in God and Christ is a matter of Mercy !

Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Faith in God and Christ is a matter of Mercy , in other words, in order to become a believer in Christ for Salvation, we must obtain Mercy, or God must have Mercy on us. Paul says 1 Tim 12-13

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Salvation is undeserved, Faith in Christ is undeserved, and God's Mercy finds us in unbelief or disobedience and ignorance !

Paul is saying nothing nothing different than what he wrote here to the Romans Rom 11:30-32

30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy[To believe] through their unbelief:

31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy[To believe].

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

This shows us actually that instead of of faith or believing being conditions one must meet to become saved or to get mercy, instead being in unbelief and disobedience is the condition one must be in to obtain mercy that saves us. That we are saved by Mercy is Taught here Titus 3:5

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Many adversaries of the Truth will say that God does not save unbelievers, but in fact what has been just testified to in scripture proves, evidences that He does, for if He did not, there would be no need of His Mercy, and there would never be any believers, for believers are unbelievers saved by God's Mercy !

Justified by the faith of Jesus Christ.

Truth is what justifies our faith in anything, isn't it?

The truth of the outcome is what justifies one who has placed faith in some saving grace or another.
And, faith in Truth, itself, will always end in the lies being dispelled and truth rising up again from the ashes where people had tried to discard that Truth.
"I am the truth, and the way, and the life" more abundant because lies fail to justify having believed in them.

Faith in money or the goddess of Beauty, etc, is justified by the truthful recognition of the consequences over the long range.

Many adversaries of the Truth will say that God does not save unbelievers,...

The logic follows that God is the Force behind the ever unfolding, next frame of Reality, since that is what sires the Christ, son-of-the father-of-creation, i.e.; Truth,( in the sense of the Ideal or the general concept of what is True).

"I am the truth" which will justify faith in me because the father is this almighty Reality which both threatens and nurtures man who is trapped within it.

I've noticed there seems to be some confusion about whether we're justified before God by our faith or the faith of Christ. The translators of many Bibles took the liberty of changing the words "faith of Jesus Christ" to "faith in Jesus Christ" sometime in the early 19th Century. Even though the Greek confirms this, as I will show later, and was used correctly in other instances, such as the "hand of God" and the "faith of Abraham", the references to the faith of Christ was changed in many translations to faith in Christ. Tyndales, the Great Bible, Young's, and the KJV, all kept it in it's correct form, but most of the new translations adopted this practice of changing the "of" to "in". I submit it greatly affects the truth of what the Word says about how we're justified. I'll post on the Greek translations in a bit, but I'd be interested in hearing your views on this very important point of doctrine.

So, let's look first at some verses that aren't affected by a difference in translations.

We see that Jesus is the author and finisher (or perfecter) of our faith.

Some may wonder why Jesus needs faith to begin with, or if He even has faith of His own, since being justified by the faith of Christ would require that He did.

We see that without faith, it is impossible to please God.

The Father was "well pleased" by the Son.
Matthew 3:17 said:
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The just shall live by faith...and notice, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith.
What does that mean, exactly? From what faith? From whose faith? Keep this in mind because it's critical to how the righteousness of God is revealed. If the righteousness of God is not "revealed" to us, how can we have faith in God?
Romans 1:17 said:
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Jesus is called the Just One.
Acts 22:14 said:
And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
God justifies by faith...would that be the faith of the Son or our faith?
Romans 3:30 said:
Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
Think about this one...I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. Christ lives in us, do we live by His faith, or the faith we have in Him? Here are the two translations side by side and you decide. If we no longer live to ourselves, but Christ lives in us, how do we live by our faith. :confused
Galatians 2:20 said:
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 (NIV) said:
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
This thread has been going on along time, that seems rather odd to me. Not that there isn't a debate on this issue, there surely is. But the opening argument assumes that the Greek only supports one possible translation.

This comes frankly from an ignorance of the many uses of the Genitive case. The Genitive case is one of the most difficult intricacies of interpretation and translation, as in order for any translation to be done of the Genitive there must be an interpretation, to attempt to demonstrate the syntactical force of the word. In this instance, we find that the Jesus Christ (in the Genitive case [much like my name]) can either be translated as a subjective genitive, or rather where Jesus is the subject, where the action draws out it's origination, which would be the faith or faithfulness that Jesus Christ has or has performed. Or the objective genitive, which is where Jesus Christ is the object of the faith, indeed you will sometimes find the preposition εἰς preceding Jesus Christ to further verify what is the object, even later in this verse.

However, that does not negate the possibility of this being an objective genitive as we could simply debate that forever and ever and never really come to a conclusion on that one. What we need to do is investigate the theological implications of each of the translations, and see how they measure up to the rest of the Canon of Scripture.

Do you understand post 325 ? Please go over with me the points I made to see if you understand them !

Eph 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Religionists, no matter what, believe that Salvation is of themselves. However, that Faith is not of man that believeth, but by the Grace and Power of God, can not be more plainer than here written in Rom 11:18-20

18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.

20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

The standing by Faith is not anything we do, so it excludes boasting, as something man does as a condition to get saved ! Faith is part of the grafting in procedure that God does. Yes Vs 18 above excludes boasting for faith as well as Eph 2:9

The only way one can stand by faith is by God's Ability, not by the flesh. The word stand in Vs 20 is the greek word histēmi:

to cause or make to stand, to place, put, set

So they were caused or made to stand by Faith !

The same word is used here Rom 14:4

4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

God is able and does enable according to His Purpose, those He so desires to stand by Faith as in Rom 11:20

20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

That should humble us, but it doesn't, because religionists erroneously believe the faith they stand by is of themselves, which makes them boasters !

Jn 17:19-20 He Prays for Faith !

Jn 17:19-20

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Even though many do not realize it here, but Jesus is praying that all for whom He died, which is the meaning of sanctifying Himself here, He prays is praying for them to receive the Gift of Faith, and this petition of Christ is the primary reason all for whom He died shall be Sanctified by the Spirit of Truth unto the Belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Folks it is impossible for anyone that Christ died for, whom He sanctified Himself for Jn 17:19-20, for them not to by the Work of the Spirit, believe the Truth of the word of Truth, if so, then His petition here in Jn 17:19-20 as well as His Death were of no avail. However His Death does ensure that all for whom He died has true Light communicated unto them Jn 1:9

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man[Whom He died for] that cometh into the world.

The word lighteth here is the greek word phōtizō and means:

) to give light, to shine

2) to enlighten, light up, illumine

3) to bring to light, render evident

a) to cause something to exist and thus come to light and become clear to all

4) to enlighten, spiritually, imbue with saving knowledge

a) to instruct, to inform, teach

b) to give understanding to

This is also what Paul means here 2 Cor 4:6

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Thats the True Light of Jn 1:9 that gives the Knowledge of Christ through the Gospel, a Saving Knowledge which Faith is an component of !49

Jn 17:19-20 He Prays for Faith ! 2

A quick recap, the Lord Jesus Christ in Jn 17:19-20 in His Petition statement that by His sanctifying Himself [by death] that they whom He is dying for may as a result be Sanctified through the Truth See Vs 17 too ! In this statement Jesus is petitioning their Faith and belief of the Truth. There basically is no difference in their being Sanctified through the Truth or being Sanctified by Faith Acts 26:18

18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Yes, this here is the effect of what Jesus requested in Jn 17:19-20 !

Its the Spirit that accomplishes this work on behalf of Christ's death and its accomplishment, for He is sent into the world Christ died for by the Father and through Christ, and to them He is a Spirit of Truth that the world at large cannot receive Jn 14:17

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

That being the world that Christ did not pray for Jn 17:9 and so did not die for ! But for that World he died for and prayed for He is sent as the Spirit of Truth Jn 16:13

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you [The Church, His Body] into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

He to them brings the Spirit of Faith 2 Cor 4:13

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Notice here, the Spirit of Faith precedes believing what is written. The Gospel is composed of things that had been written as in scripture See 1 Cor 15:3-4 !

So thats why a Sanctification of the Spirit is necessary and given to the Elect, those Christ died for, unto the Belief or Faith in the Truth 2 Thess 2:13-14

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If one is not experimentally Set apart by the Spirit, producing in them the fruit of Faith Gal 5:22, they will never in a savingly way believe the Gospel Truth ! But all whom Christ sanctified Himself in behalf shall believe it ! Jn 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Jn 10:16

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Chosen to Believe the Truth !

All those who have been Chosen to Salvation from the beginning, they have also been Chosen to Faith or Belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Therefore all them Whom God Chosen in Christ before the foundation Eph 1:4 shall be given Faith to believe the Truth, no ifs buts, or maybes about it, its sure ! This is an indictment against any and all who teach that no one is Chosen to Believe the Truth in Fact thats why its called the Faith of God's Elect Titus 1:1, for Faith and Election go hand and hand !

Yes, most definitely!

Sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the Truth is the result and effect of being chosen to salvation.

Ephesians 1:3-11 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; Wherein He hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will

Mankind's freewill has nothing to do with whom God has chosen to become saved!

2 Timothy 1:8-9 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began

Grace was given to the chosen in Christ from everlasting; and not only Grace, but God's mercy was bestowed upon the elect ones from everlasting. (John 3:27)

Psalm 103:17 But the mercy of the LORD [is] from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep His covenant, and to those that remember His commandments to do them.

And God will see to it that all His elect will keep His commandments.
(Ezekiel 36:26-27)

So those who were chosen to salvation will at some point in their life actually experience this Divinely Given (John 3:27) sanctification and belief of the Truth, which is The Gospel; the Word of Truth.

For God Himself has ordained it! (Acts 13:48); these are all those given to the Son! (John 6:37);

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise

Electionist (new word!!) do not believe God has faith, as God does not need it. That is because if your an electionist you also do not need faith. No matter what you see in the Word, it's all boils down to the Sovereign Will of God. God picks and chooses who is sick, who gets born again, who roast in hell. God controls everything. So the concept of faith is strange to them as they believe they were picked to be born again anyway though the grace and election of God. Nothing, not even themselves could have prevented it.

I can see that even after all these years, Savedbygrace 57 is in His old copy and paste routines of this election Doctrine. He will very seldom answer you.

Mike.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your response.
Could you please do one of two things. Either do a mention [MENTION=93058]Deborah13[/MENTION] and then whoever you are mentioning or quoting will get a notice so we know and can respond. Or just highlight a portion you want to quote, when you do a little Quote button will appear and click and it's in your post with the

Blessing to you, I enjoy reading your post. :)

Hey Deb:wave
I think we see that the Lord,(as a man) walked upon the earth in a perfect faith.
I think we could say that God created the "law of faith" which works according to His Word.

Does God have faith?
Romans 4:17
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Hi Mitspa, good to have you back! :wave
I think that everything that God teaches us, He possess Himself including faith.
Did Jesus say something about, the ones who believed without seeing and hearing Him were more blessed than the ones who did.
It takes faith to believe in what can't be revealed by the 5 senses. It's a spiritual thing that we can only attribute to God in us.
Just what I think, in poor wording though.
