What exactly is paying a tithe? I'm not talking about a certain specified percentage. I'm talking about where or whom does it get paid to? The usual answer is, "To God" but what exactly is that? To the church (lower case "c" intentional)? Is that truly giving tithe to God or is doing that really just giving to finance the church, the pastor's salary, the parsonage,...? I know in our congregation, the amount of the budget used to finance the every day expenses of the church far exceed the monies used to finance our mission giving and such. I often ask myself, when a pastor is preaching about tithing how much of his preaching is aimed at lining his pockets?

Tithe is training wheels to the unicycle of giving.

I am God's slave. Meaning all I am, all I am going to be, all I earn, all I will earn is God's. All my debts (which I could never pay) are paid in full. I get what I need to survive but the rest is His. Which is more than training wheels will allow me to keep.
I don't need a new jet aircraft, gold antique cabinets, or luxury cars. I do need coffee though.

And the money goes to the three places that are listed in Deuteronomy 14...15?

I don't support Starbucks junkies.lol

That tithes should be paid
And what is a tithe for a Christian, as per scripture? Oh, and if you read all of scripture, God does not want your tithe, if you "must" give it. God loves a cheerful giver. If you do not love Him so much you want Him to have it, it purchases you nothing.

And how much do you give to the Levites?

Who were the Levites?
What was their role?
How is this role fulfilled today?
Where are all the churches that have staff?

Yeah
Lol, trying to answer my question with four of your own.
I think you know you're fighting a losing battle.

What exactly is paying a tithe?
The tithe is part of the Law of Moses.
If you're a Jew, it's for you.

Deu 14:22-29 (RSV) The Law of the Tithe

You shall tithe all the yield of your seed, which comes forth from the field year by year. And before the LORD your God, in the place which he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and flock; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to bring the tithe, when the LORD your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the LORD your God chooses, to set his name there, then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses, and spend the money for whatever you desire, oxen, or sheep, or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves; and you shall eat there before the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. And you shall not forsake the Levite who is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you.

At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your produce in the same year, and lay it up within your towns; and the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

I have never heard a preacher preach that and I don't know anyone who does that.

Oh, yeah, and there's no such thing as a "New Testament Tithe."
