Many claim to be Christian just by thinking they are good people, but have no knowledge of the Spiritual rebirth or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 10:27 that His sheep hear His voice and He knows who are His.

Many expect Jesus to talk to them verbally and He does at times through His ministering angels, but mainly He speaks to us through the word as the Holy Spirit will guide us to the scriptures that answers our questions.

hi. an sbc minister told me once that he heard from God, audibly, --1-- time...and that was when he told him to go into the ministry. I think even devoted Christians mostly hear God thru His word, thru other people, etc.

They have a stronger imagination.
Imagination and reason are important skills/traits to have in building our faith in God.
I've also noticed that life experience can trigger more faith in God. I know of a guy who became a priest. When he was 11, his mother died and that event triggered a search, a spiritual search fro several years. I think deaths of loved ones can make our faith more real.

God speaks to us all in different ways, we just have to be open to hear what He is saying. If we are making too much noise it is hard to know what He wants to tell us.

Are you saying that anyone who hears God speak to them is only their imaginations? Imagination and reason are not skills as for one thing reasoning is only that of a carnal mind set to imagine anything, but yet not necessarily a reality. Building faith comes by trusting in all the promises of God through that of His Son Christ Jesus. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17. Faith grows when we grow in the knowledge of truth by that of Gods Holy Spirit teaching us.

If you read more of C S Lewis and Peter Kreeft, both respected theologians, you will discover the value of imagination in our faith journeys. Lack of imagination contributes to atheism or a very narrow faith mind-set.
Actually, there is a lot of value in using our imagination when we read the Bible.

I have read things from them and many things they have written does not line up with scripture as he is just another jump on the bandwagon as he follows the teachings of J.N. Darby, Edward Irving who were the first ones to come out with the rapture theory in the early 1800's. One does not have to imagine faith which is Christ Jesus, but only get to know Him like you would know your best friend. I can only imagine certain events that are given in scripture as I play them in my mind like a movie, but never the reality like that of being with God as an example as I have no clue what it all will be like until I get there and experience the reality of all of it.

I think God is always "talking" in one way or another, people just aren't attuned to it. As for as when the actual voice comes, it's because God wants something done and has nothing to do with ones level of holiness or devotion.
The several times I believe God most clearly spoke to me (via thoughts) was when I was so severely backslidden I doubted He existed any more.
General impressions and bible verses is "all" I get normally.

As somebody who believes that God has communiacted with personally, I'd have to say what I believe God has told me Himself; "Ask and ye shall recieve. For the Lord covers all of our needs, but our wants left unanswered." Which I think that means God only comes to those who need Him. For example, God is probably not going to help you win the lottery, but He will help you get through some really tough times if you just seek Him and trust in Him. It might not be in the way you want or expect Him to, but He is always with us.

If we are obedient to God and remain in His will He will always be faithful to meet our needs, Philippians 4:19. Gods word does say ask and ye shall receive as He will supply the need, but not the wants as the wants are above that of what we truly need for survival. Our wants are that of the material that become in a sense luxuries and that if wanted we have to obtain our self.

Actually I think when we do hear audibly from God it is actually His ministering angels sent to us like that of John in Revelations 1:1 as Jesus spoke through the angel that spoke to John and revealed all those revelations to him. Throughout the OT we read many times when angels would appear to speak Gods word to others as these are His ministering angels. First it was God who gave the revelations to Jesus then Jesus sent the ministering angel to John. No matter what we hear it all comes by Gods spoken word first.

Is it because some need this more than others or is it simply because they are closer to Jesus?
i didn't know i could hear from God until i hung around christians who did it all the time

i watched how they talked to God - like He was really there - and like He would really answer - Hebrews 11:6

after watching them for awhile it inspired me to do the same - and lo and behold it worked for me too

God has no favorites so we can all seek God - and if we seek Him with our whole heart we will find Him - Jeremiah 29:13

when i first started out it took me at least 4 hours of being quiet with God to hear Him - get impressions from Him - visions - scriptures - etc - Psalms 46:10 - 1 Kings 19:12-13

i don't hear an audible voice - God speaks to my heart and mind - Hebrews 10:16 - Jeremiah 31:33

it is a learning experience that keeps getting better - Proverbs 4:18

in our prayer meetings we had some very sad people who didn't think God spoke to them - so we prayed for them and right in the prayer meeting they started hearing from God too

imo it's easier to hear God when worshipping and/or hearing scripture and/or praying in tongues - anything that helps you stay focused on God and how awesomely good He is

God loves you very much - you are every bit as special as any of us - Acts 10:34 - Romans 2:11

Short personal story on the topic
One day i was whining and grumbling to Mom about God not talking to me ..going on He so Did this for him ect..

Mom's reply was something like this "Reba shut up and listen "

Lol:rofl2I love your sense of humor Reba, but on a serious note I believe that it's right. I believe that God speaks to us all of the time. We just have to want to listen.

amen

it's almost like the quieter you get the better you hear God

And also, Sky High said something abut their being imagination involved with it. Well, I must have one heck of an imagination then because if I was able to know that God was with my future mother in -law when she was sexually abused as a child and had suffered not only one, but two miscarriages without her telling me about it first, I don't know about you but I don't think that there's any other logical explanation but the Lord communicating with me.
