Also, they all accept AJAX, Java Script and JSON.
Which are indispensable when communicating with a web based app. Client side scripting keeps things running smoother and faster than relying solely on server side scripting. In layman's terms that means using scripting languages that change only the parts of a web page that need changing and not reloading the entire page from the server to display a single minor change to the page. AJAX does that. JSON is now the commonly recognized language to communicate what AJAX fetches to the wide variety of devices available to display web pages.

Right now it's creating a surge in work for where I work... The company I work for is bringing on another 2,600 IT employees this year so we can standardize and eliminate legacy applications.
And then when that's complete you'll prolly get rid of twice that many(?)
It's not that there won't be jobs for them, they're just won't be as many on site in the business environment being served.

Your right, and in the internal corporate world, there really isn't any static web pages. Most, if not all tie into either an application API or a database. Right now, we're playing with Oracle 10 and some new Web API that we can release to developers. Anyway, Sharepoint is driven by it's own database and wow, is it powerful! I had no idea what sharepoint is capable of.

Not really. I"m thinking we'll loose a few project managers here and there, but technology is here to stay and we're doing way more with technology than ever before and there is so much more we're going to do. Without saying who, I work for a large Automobile company and wow, are we gonna be making some cool cars in the next 10 years. Actually, Android and Apple just opened their API's to all of the autmotive manufactures so youre phone will integrate into your vehicle experience. Kinda cool talking to some of the guys that are working on that. It scares some people, but for generation X, they love it!

Most big corporations are still running Windows 7 because Windows 8 was designed more for a tablet than a computer. Windows 10 addresses that issue in a corporate environment and wins back some of it's end users like yourself.
As far as virtualization, the vast majority of servers are indeed virtual servers and when it comes to banks, virtual pc's in "Kiosk" mode are they way they go. Anyway, I really don't know about the company you read the white paper on so it's anybodies guess.
ZD NET and from Mary Jo Foley on Windows.

I'm just going to give the moment a big ol' ....

?
and one of these for no particular reason:boing

I was wondering when the smartphones would be allowed to interact with cars. The ecm on a car are rather slow compared to our pc and phones.I'm sure my smartphone has more computing power then my trucks modules combined.

Apple and Android opened their API's to all of the Auto manufactures. In short, they already are... and in a big way which will get even bigger next year and the year after.
Imagine this... your driving down the road and you get close to empty. All of a sudden gas stations around you start bidding for your business with discounts... all this on Google maps which is displayed on the car's console through your phone... because your phone knew your car was on empty.
Taking a trip? it will know by your route. Hungry? Gas? Need a Hotel? We've got you covered :)
