"God is Spirit, and those who whorship Him must worship in spirit and truth." JOhn 4:24 NKJV

"The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him." John 4:23 NRSV

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 NRSV

I am a Christian, we can see those who have the fruit of the Spirit by their post. Are they afraid, against, mean spirited and argue against the Spirit or do they flow with love without fear with the Spirit.

So you may (or may not) have the Spirit part down, but I'm not so certain about the Truth part.

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

or in this case God and Yoga. This is inline with the Meat offered up to Idols discussion we had a short time ago. Paul suggested a less mature Christian might be misled by the actions of a more grounded person. In Pauls case, it was eating meat offered up to Idols. In this case, it is condoing yoga to a potentially less mature believer.

It's much more than saying, "do it if you want or don't do it if you don't want to". That's not very discerning, wouldn't you say? So please stop suggesting it is nothing more than Christian paranoia. WE are the ones looking out for the "milkfed ones". You are not! You are the one arguing against the Spirit.

It sounds like only you know the truth and others don't so they should do everything you say, not the God within. You say yoga is wrong, but you don't know the truth about yoga so you scare people and say you know the truth when you don't.

Yoga has its origin in India and is part of the Hindu religion, but it is not Hindu. It is a science that has arisen out of it. It is a universal technique. Because in Yoga, as it is given in the Yoga-Darsana of Patanjali, one of the six systems of philosophy, no particular dogma is laid down and no particular God is pointed out for your worship. Yoga doesn't say that you must repeat any particular Name of God. Yoga only says that repetition of one of the Divine Names is one of the ways of concentrating the mind. It says repetition of the Divine Name. You may repeat the Divine Name of Jesus, the Most Sacred Heart of Christ, or you may say the prayer of Jesus.

When the spiritual content in religion is no longer active, when people tell one to listen to them that they know the truth and your heart doesn't know the truth then religion is not serving its purpose, no longer progressive, that religion has petrified. It is not alive in such cases. Yoga is a wonderful answer because the prime concern of Yoga is the spiritual reality within you, the attainment of the spiritual goal for which you have taken in your human birth, that may be Chrsitianity. Yoga is a technique to quiet the mind and relax the body so one may go deeper in prayer and contemplation. You argue against the heart and divine experience, which is the heart of religion.
In yoga one closes his eyes, don't tell us that is a sin.

It says repetition of the Divine Name. You may repeat the Divine Name of Jesus, the Most Sacred Heart of Christ, or you may say the prayer of Jesus.

Good point...

Yoga is "flexible" in its application! 8-)

There are mountains of proof for the "good fruits" of its use for health and mental clarity if you simply google it.

You can focus on the power of Christ transforming your life as you do your stretches and breathing techniques.

Yoga is whatever you feel comfortable making it.

Anyone can water down the truth about Yoga... by turning Yoga into a watered down version. Just as many have watered down the truth of what the Christmas tree was originally before it's symbolism was transformed and used in a "Christian Holy Day". The Christmas "tree" had roots in the practice of pagan nature worshipers. Yoga is a pagan practice and those who practice it in it's true form are indeed participating in paganism and giving homage to false gods and alternative spirits.

Just the same as watering down Yoga, anyone can water down the truth in scripture in regards to what it is to "truly" live as an uncompromising "Christian".

As a matter of fact, these days, many so called Christian based churches are promoting this "watered down type of Christianity" by integrating a hodgepodge of paganism, idolatry in the form of money and selfish materialism, and false gods into practice within them.

I've even seen in some churches where they allowed astrologers to hold tarot and chart readings in the basements of their congregations. And there are even plenty of Catholics organizations in this area who promote Yoga classes and retreats. That being a fact......it doesn't make it okay to do so, because these things are a contradiction to biblical teachings.

You come on this board and promote these things here but yet you ignore all scripture references that were given to you which reveals how the practice of Yoga (not some watered down version) is giving homage to false gods and alternative spirits. i.e., Shiva and alternative spiritual forces... chi as opposed to the Holy Spirit of the Lord God of the Judeo Christians.

Be it known.... Yoga and exercise are two different practices. When you mask the truth about Yoga, of course it is going to appears as if it is merely a "healthy" practice of exercise. Watered down Yoga, doesn't make it okay. Especially when you are focusing on the chi force and the Shiva crawling up and down your spine. You can compare the chi force as being no different than the Holy Spirit of Gd.... but really.... you can't fool the truth.

Many so called Christians used to, and some still do, sing this song:

Oh, Christmas tree,
oh christmas tree....
How lovely are they branches.

Just because so called "Christians" sing that song.... does that make it truly a "Christian" thing to do? :-?

And so, I ask you this.... Just because so called "Christians" attend yoga classes.... does that make it truly a "Christian" thing to do? :-?

Oh the double-mindedness of us all!
God have mercy on us!

The more I learn what it means to TRULY give my life over to Christ.... the more I am convicted by the Holy Spirit of the sins I have been living in and how I must ask for God to cleanse me of my sins, to go and sin no more. Baptism washes away our sins of the past. But to truly live IN the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus, the Holy spirit does not stop revealing the sins we hold onto, those that we were unaware of, thos convicting us in the process of our daily walk with him as he guides us, daily.

To clear the conscience of double-minded loyalties is a work in progress, for sure. I still have sins that show up in my life, to be washed clean as they are revealed to me by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is come to help us overcome our sins to resist temptations to commit to those sins.... Jesus said he must leave that the holy spirit can come... Do you think by being doubleminded in loyalties that we are allowing the Holy Spirit to truly have a place in our lives if we mess around with paganism and other things that lead us away from the Spirit of Christ. There are many forks in the road! We only need focus on the truth of JHVH GD. Jesus is our perfect example... Not some Shiva spirit that crawls up and down your spine. Jesus is the way the truth and the life.

Chakras, Kundalini, Wheel of Life, Astrology, Tarot, New Age philosophies and religions.... all of that stuff had to be wiped out of practice in my life back in the day when I was still a hippie.
You can't take claim to being a Christian and still live wrapped up in paganism.

Many Christians are losing the battle against a persistent bad habit, an addiction, or a temptation, and are stuck in a repeating cycle of good intention, failure, and then guilt.

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23)

"Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)

As Christians walk by the Spirit of God they get self-control, since this is part of the fruit of the Spirit. Yoga is a technique to relax and release tension so the Holy Spirit can be felt.

You argue against yoga which releases tension in a healthy way, but say nothing of Christians who are drunkards and sexual perverts. These individuals could use yoga in a healthy way to release tension, but I guess you would rather have them beat the wife and children. Beat the hell out of them or do a few yoga exercises and relax.

Don't pervert Christianity so good Christians can't relax and feel the Spirit.

Relic writes: If a person uses yoga looking to other spirits Shiva to crawl up and down their spine, looks to chi force, then they are not being true to "Christianity". they are instead looking to pagan means of concentration/meditation.

You argue against yoga which releases tension in a healthy way, but say nothing of Christians who are drunkards and sexual perverts.

Relic writes: There are plenty of other thread about alcoholics and sexual perverts. This thread is about yoga, not drunkards and sexual perverts.

These individuals could use yoga in a healthy way to release tension, but I guess you would rather have them beat the wife and children. Beat the hell out of them or do a few yoga exercises and relax.

Relic writes: :o who ever claimed to prefer people beat their wives and children? Get real.

Don't pervert Christianity so good Christians can't relax and feel the Spirit.

Relic writes: Scriptures don't pervert Christianity. False religions, Idoltary, and paganism are not true to Christianity.

So then... Once again:

You come on this board and promote these things here but yet you ignore all scripture references that were given to you which reveals how the practice of Yoga (not some watered down version) is giving homage to false gods and alternative spirits. i.e., Shiva and alternative spiritual forces... chi as opposed to the Holy Spirit of the Lord God of the Judeo Christians.

Shiva and his philosophy came thousands of years before the time of Jesus. In the Bible if it was so evil it would have been named directly, but it is not. You seem to see evil everywhere. Relax and enjoy God's creation so love can pour out of your heart and not some creeepy crawler climbing up and down your spine.

You are trying to justify yoga by diverting the attention on trying to belittle me, insinuating that to you, it seems as if I see evil everywhere and am not relaxed. I don't see evil "everywhere, silly" .
However, I do see a presentation of an anti-christian agenda when people come on board and support and promote paganism and other gods in one instance and then they go and say it is okay to merge parts of an old pagan/heathen practice with Christianity.

I am relaxed, I don't need any Yoga to make me relaxed. I don't need any false gods or Shiva to meditate on. This is a Christian forum and when discussions about pagan practices founded on meditations upon other gods are brought up they are not to be promoted, they are to be exposed for what they really are. This thread should be about the truth about yoga, not the promotion of a meditation that is totally out of line with Christianity.
If you don't see the betrayal to the Lord Gd JHVH in the participating in the true meditations of Yoga then you are turning a blind eye to it and you are avoiding the truth about the meditations of Yoga. You are promoting a watered down version of it. And that does not make it okay. Exercise and the practice of "TRUE" Yoga are two totally different things!

:o And so according to you, ignore what the bible says about other gods, and that makes it okay? :o

There is a difference between True Yoga and exercise and or relaxation. You can't combine them and say it's just exercise and relaxation.
The truth about Yoga is totally different than this practice of some "watered down" version of it by saying meditating on Jesus makes all the difference. That is combining paganism with Christianity! :-?

Watered down yoga is not true Yoga! Stop ignoring the fact that merging pagan ways with christian meditations is what is going on there. And stop ignoring the truth about what the various types of real yoga is all about.

=======================

Shiva is a Hindu god!
Even though there are some mentioned by name, the scripture in the bible didn't mention all the false gods by name,. However, scripture does say this:
  • Exodus 20:3-5
    3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And so again,

You can't take claim to being a Christian while wrapping yourself up in paganism.

One can't be a Christian and bring hell to earth because sincere Christians bring heaven to earth and share God's joy with everyone. A relaxed person is positive and joyful. This person doesn't go around trying to find evil behind every corner and kick Christians for enjoying what our Lord has given us.

"I am the Lord thee God Thee shall not have strange Gods before me." A God is strange to tell its followers that they are not His followers. God the Father loves all His children. A false God is about hatred, division, and condemnation. The true God will be known by his love.

Are all children of God? No.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:7-10

Does everyone share in God's joy? No.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:18-20

Will all be resurrected to eternal life? No.

28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. John 5:28-29

Should believers love and not discern that which is evil? No.

Love must be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good. Romans 12:9 Holman Christian Standard

2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. 3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Philippians 3:2-3

Are there any evil men attempting to deceive others? Yes.

13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Hebrews 5:14

Those that know Jesus know the light and express its grace and joy. Those that say they know Jesus, but maybe they don't express darkness rather than light. If one knows the joy of the Lord, why would they spread doom and gloom? Is it that they don't know the joy?

There was nothing before Jesus .He is the Word[Logos in Greek]
became flesh and dwelt among us.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it."
John;1:1-6

BC stands before Christ as most people already know.

It stands for Before Christ, and it means the number of years before the birth of Jesus Christ. That was 2000 years ago, so the date 552 B.C. means 2552 years ago.

Before Christ, (from the Ancient Greek "Christos" or "Anointed One", referring to Jesus) abbreviated as BC, is used in the English language to denote years before the start of this epoch.
