None of us here on the forum have a sound board where we can hear each others voices.
So what do we sound like?
Have you ever thought about it?

When you read someone's post, do you put a voice to it?
Does each person sound different to you?
Are our avatars reflective of the voice we give people?

What do I sound like to you?

I think most of us tend to hear (in our heads) whatever we think the avatar picture might sound like... especially if it is a cartoon, singer, or movie star, etc. that we are familiar with.

Could you speak up Kathi, I can't hear you.

I sound like Mary Richards, from the Mary Tyler Moore Show

This is always a curiosity of mine while interacting with other people via the internet. I just left another forum of which I had been a member of for 10 years. I was primarily active in the forum's 'Singles Fellowship' section. We eventually created a thread where members could upload 'shoutout' videos to other members (perhaps to friends that they had made). The video messages ranged from a few seconds to fifteen minutes a video. It all depended on the person and what they had to say. :) There were no rules (besides your video needing to be clean and appropriate) as to what you needed to do, simply what you felt like. And obviously you had the option of showing yourself in the video if you wished, or if you preferred sticking to an 'audio' message without revealing yourself, that was just fine as well. ...Not everyone is comfortable showing themselves in photos or videos online and that's understandable, so there was never any pressure for anyone to do a video/audio message.

Anyway. It solved the mystery for many people of what other members' sounded and looked like. It really promoted a great fun and fellowship and a closeness that I've yet to discover anywhere else online. I think it's easy for people to sort of 'forget' that those they're interacting with online are real people, with real lives and jobs, and with real feelings. Video/audio messages really help to bring that person to life and makes interactions more personable, IMO.

I had people ask me for years "Is your mommy home?".That would really tick me off when I was in my 40's and had a family.
