I have watched David Copperfield many times on TV and because I like what he does' does that hold me in error ? Every time we see a magician or go to a show are we in sin ? Even though we are not doing it ourselves ? I don't go to the shows or seek them out, but if I see a good one on TV I watch them because to me it is nothing but entertainment. But is it entertainment from the devil ?

What does the Bible say about magic, magicians, illusionists?

I don't think you want to get involved with occultist who practice magic irregardless of your belief system.

Absolutely. :yes

Ask yourself. "How's he doing that?"

.
Live magic acts and pre recorded magic acts are two very diffrent acts. Thats a staged pre recorded act (Its set up and edited later for the tv viewing audience) And thats why I dont watch him anymore.

How is it set up?

That illusion is accomplished by going out there the night before and setting up his plexi-glass tables in the river. The tops of the tables are just below the surface which allows him to walk. The kayaks (with their shallow hull) were a nice added touch because they discouraged the thought of he was walking on something beneath the surface by traversing over the path that he walked on the water. The kayakers were in on it and the police probably were also.

I half expected the police to shoot him because he had his hands raised. Oh wait, that's another thread, lol.

Edward's absolutely right. Val Valentino (as the Masked Magician) exposed this trick years ago, setting up his Plexiglas bridge in a swimming pool. You notice Fryne gets picked up by the Police boat only when he comes to the end of the bridge; the boat's prop might have otherwise damaged the plastic structure, though was impervious to the shallow kayaks skimming over it.

I think there's a more practical conflict for me. I enjoy modern entertainment magic, understanding that for every trick there is a non-spiritual, scientific answer as to how it's done. I don't think it's Satanic or demonic or anything like that. However, what about two of the most famous, Penn and Teller? They are both avowed atheists. Should I just enjoy the act and ignore their belief systems, or reject them as sacriligious?

You really think so?

I wonder what the scientific answer is for this one?

I don't happen to know how that particular illusion is performed; I could probably find out. But let me ask you: do you think these tricks are based on actual "magic"? Do you really think the rules of physics are being violated here? Just because you don't know the logical explanation you categorize it a valid demonstation of magical abilities?

Do you think Steven Fryne actually has the ability to literally walk on water like our Savior? Plexglas has an index of refraction close to that of water, so is nearly invisible when submerged. A convenient way to construct an invisibile walkway.

I believe that real magic does exist, but it is rarely used for entertainment purposes. Jesus healed with what you could term magical abilities. Maybe spiritual or psychic healing is more appropriate, I don't know.

I think the devil can do a lot more than we are lead to believe.

That swimming pool doesn't have the current that a river does.

Think about that.

Well, yes, but usually not to entertain people with magic tricks. These are tricks, dude. The performing magician can explain how they're done. Nowadays most illusions have Youtube videos that explain exactly how they're done. I've yet to see one that begins with invoking a demonic being.

[Now, just for completeness, let me just say that it's a completely different conversation if you want to talk about the involvement of the Illuminati with the entertainment field. I believe there is a strong and literally Satanic current running through this spiritually corrupt industry.]

True, the river presents some not insignificant technical challenges. But that only makes it more difficult, not impossible. This is just show business. Yesterday's special F/X don't cut it today; you have to come up with bigger, brighter, more impressive stunts today, and tomorrow you must up the ante yet again. What was impossible yesterday is old hat by tomorrow.

Think about that.
Want to tone down the Yodaisms a bit? It makes you manipulative, not wise.

I'm being manipulative because I said "Think about it"?

Okay.

Of course they are.

Explain that flag "trick".

Gary, do you really believe that dynamo is in league with satan, or are you just having fun.
