That is called fornication, not marriage. A covenant with mutual agreement between both parties needs to be knowingly entered into.I always thought if you lay together, then you are joined together, and are married.
They have sinned by committing fornication. They need to confess, repent and stop fornicating. If they refuse to repent and cease sinning, I doubt the Almighty will bless their marriage.Sex is of God who created it. Sex is a Gift of God. Sex is a gift to a married couple and the package shouldn't be open until the wedding night.
What happens to these couples who do not wait?
Are you saying there will be no Grace and Mercy? They have sinned by committing fornication. They need to confess, repent and stop fornicating. If they refuse to repent and cease sinning, I doubt the Almighty will bless their marriage.

Grace is available, but I think the gift of mercy is accessed through repentance. Are you saying there will be no Grace and Mercy?
My husband was my first, we dated about a year, before he got lucky.I had the same thought before.
Me & my wife did not wait. She was pregnant with our 2nd son when we got married. The wrong way to do it of course, but at least it was a continuous relationship with no gaps from the start and we did get married a year later. Her getting preg snuck up on me but I stepped up and was even present for the birth of both of my son's. Something I highly recommend and never want to do again, lol.
If I ever get married again, I want to do it right.
It was mutual, lol. That is called fornication, not marriage. A covenant with mutual agreement between both parties needs to be knowingly entered into.
the same thing that happens to those who fail to repent of there sins look Hebrews says marriage is honorable in all bed undefiled .but adulters and whoremongers God will judge ..then here is the big shock wave 1 Corinthians 6 : 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.Sex is of God who created it. If you mean the length of time it encompasses, it is not stated. If you want to know its meaning, it is similar to a modern engagement, but with a deeper bond in that the betrothed woman was considered the man's wife.Could you share with us what the "Betrothal" period is from the Law?

Not that I am aware of.Is there ever sex during the betrothal period?
This passage does not say they had sex while betrothed. "Wife" is not synonymous with "sex". However, I'm sure there were sinful husbands that had sex with their betrothed wives. It would also be sinful for a modern Christian to have sex while engaged.7 “And if a man sells his daughter to be a female slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. 8 If she does not please her master, who has betrothed her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her. 9 And if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters. 10 If he takes another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, and her marriage rights. 11 And if he does not do these three for her, then she shall go out free, without paying money. Exodus 21:7-11

The jews still do some of thatThere were also two monetary components to marriage. There is the bride price to be paid by the groom (or his father) for a virgin wife. It was rather expensive.
Then there is the dowry. Paid by the bride's father. (Since maids had no money) and the wedding celebration party...which happened at the engagement (the formal engagement)
Respectable families would have years to months of pre-engagement before the formal engagement.
Once the formal engagement was done then she was technically married. But not completely till the groom in a great deal of fanfare would come and get her to bring her to their new home. (A smaller party would ensue at that time)
At that time, during the party, one "best man" would stand guard while the marriage was consummated. The groom would let the best man know that indeed she was a virgin and that all was well.
There is more to the Ancient Near East marriage rituals but...its a start.
