Perhaps a good way to say it is the literal circumstances of life (sicknesses, disabilities, unemployment, etc.) are the crosses--the altars--upon which we sacrifice the fleshly, sinful workings inside of us to God for the purpose of the total destruction of those sinful workings. I think it somewhat inaccurate to think of bearing a cross as the loss of quality of life (having to endure a mother-in-law, an ornery spouse, a sickness, etc).

Not an easy subject to discern, civilwarbuff . Good topic.

Thank you; I believe it is a far more difficult subject than it is thought to be.....I know I have struggled with it. That is the reason I brought it up. I for one struggle more with the flesh than the spiritual; my faith in Messiah is rock solid but my ability to walk that faith on this earth is far more shaky. That fleshly cross that I bear has at times driven me to my knees; even so He has picked me up, forgiven my failures and urged me forward......

and that is your cross along with denying your self.. " I for one struggle more with the flesh than the spiritual; my faith in Messiah is rock solid but my ability to walk that faith on this earth is far more shaky." i struggle with the same thing in fact everybody does each person has something ..you just answered your own question

He did indeed drink from the cup of God's indignation.

I know that is a commonly held belief, but do you have any scriptures that actually support that assertion?

That was the belief that I had for a long time, that Jesus drank from the cup of God's indignation. But in the midst of a study I noticed something about the cup as Jesus said the words I Thirst. Now I can no longer find nor can I confirm that Jesus drank the cup of indignation, so if you had any scriptures that actually confirm that, I would appreciate it.

ezrider i believe youi have a thread on that ideal , we wont turn this thread to that discussion.. admin

I really would like an answer as to if there are any scriptures that support this assertion and commonly held belief. You don't have to respond to it in this thread. You can respond in the thread reba is refering to.

His Cross was His responsibility , the job He had to do.. our cross is our responsibility .. which is most likely different for each of us,,
Example...one of the things on my cross is bearing the burden of an unsaved husband.. second a child in the drug world... Jesus took our sins to the Father as our example...

I really cant step away from this post without mentioning my attitude

What is it like living with an unsaved husband and a child in the drug world? Is your child using drugs or influenced, only, by it?

My child is now 50 ... It is not a good thing it is heart breaking.. lots of tears... She says she has 2 years clean
Unsaved husband is normal for me.. been 53 years..

It's definitely spiritual and also emotional and also physical.
One can deny himself in all these ways in order to benefit another person.
When we do something to benefit another person we are picking up our cross.
And crosses come in all sizes...

Maybe ezra could agree with this.
Maybe this is worth only 1 cent:twocents. On the spiritual note > This post reminded me of people who would not consider leaving their religion because of family allegiance . So to bare a spiritual cross to them would be abandoning their families religious beliefs to follow Jesus. Jews, Muslims, religions that elevate anyone else would have to do the same to betroth the Lord. Shalom

44 years here. Truthfully, I don't know if this is my imagination or the Lord,
I pray for him, and I am not aware that anyone else in his life has ever prayed for him. ?So maybe? it's the reason we meet, and have stayed together?:sorry2x:topic I don't know.

I agree with you JR

I'd just like to say that there are many circumstances in a person's life that we cannot know. One may find it impossible to leave their family, or their town. Maybe they're sick, maybe they don't have the money needed to live on their own. They could still worship the Lord in their spirit and still be loved by God.

Otherwise, yes, I'd have to agree with you.
