I thirst: they were the last words spoken by Jesus as he hung upon the cross before he said it is finished.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness. For in that blessing they shall be filled.
But there are some who hunger and thirst after the righteousness that comes by the law, and there are those who hunger and thirst after the Righteousness of Christ that comes by Faith.

What do you hunger for? What is your thirst? Do you continue to hunger daily, is your thirst unquenchable? And is that a good thing?

John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. They shall be filled with the Spirit of Christ; And when they are filled, they shall no more hunger, and they shall no more thirst.

John 4:13-14
Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Jesus said whosoever drinketh this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst. Now when Jesus made the statement those whom drank from this water would thirst again, he was speaking of much more than the water drawn from well. To find the answer to the water that leaves you thirsty, we must look to the last words of Jesus as he hung upon the cross: I thirst.
.

John 19:28-30
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Matthew 27:34
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

I thirst, but he would not drink the water served with vinegar and gall. It is to this vinegar and gall, that we find the meaning to whosoever drinks from this water shall thirst again.
.

Psalms 69:16-21
Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good:
turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
And hide not thy face from thy servant;
for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it:
deliver me because of mine enemies.
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour:
mine adversaries are all before thee.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:
and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;
and for comforters, but I found none.
They gave me also gall for my meat;
and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Psalms 69:22
Let their table become a snare before them:
and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

That which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Likened unto the chief cornerstone becoming their stumbling block.

Psalms 69:23
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not;
and make their loins continually to shake.

Psalms 69:27-28
Add iniquity unto their iniquity:
and let them not come into thy righteousness.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living,
and not be written with the righteous.

I thirst, and they gave me vinegar and gall. Let their eyes be darkened that they see not, let them not come into thy righteousness.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
.
Have you been filled? Or do you still hunger and thirst? Have you taken hold of the waters of everlasting life? Or are you sipping on vinegar and gall? Have you taken hold of the bread of life so that you no longer hunger? Or has the manna you gather daily left you hungry for more?
.

Psalms 69:23
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not;
and make their loins continually to shake.

Isaiah 29:1-4
Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt!
add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.
Yet I will distress Ariel,
and there shall be heaviness and sorrow:
and it shall be unto me as Ariel.
And I will camp against thee round about,
and will lay siege against thee with a mount,
and I will raise forts against thee.
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground,
and thy speech shall be low out of the dust,
and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground,
and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

The familiar spirit that whispers out of the dust. Sounds strikingly similar to that cast upon the serpent.

Genesis 3:14
And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Isaiah 29:5-6
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust,
and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away:
yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts
with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise,
with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

Isaiah 29:7-8
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel,
even all that fight against her
and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth;
but he awaketh, and his soul is empty:

or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh;
but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite:

so shall the multitude of all the nations be,
that fight against mount Zion.

I Thirst. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they SHALL BE FILLED. Those who are filled shall no longer hunger or thirst. But those who have a hunger and thirst after the righteousness that comes by the law, or those who hunger and thirst after the words and works of other men, then they shall not be filled, and their appetite remains. It is said of these, that they fight AGAINST mount Zion. If Christ reigns from mount Zion, then fighting against mount Zion is not something I would choose for myself.
.

Isaiah 29:9
Stay yourselves, and wonder;
cry ye out, and cry:
they are drunken, but not with wine;
they stagger, but not with strong drink.

They are are drunken, but not with wine. Sound familiar?

Acts 2:12-17
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
.

Psalms 69:23
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not;
and make their loins continually to shake.

Isaiah 29:9-12
Stay yourselves, and wonder;
cry ye out, and cry:
they are drunken, but not with wine;
they stagger, but not with strong drink.
For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep,
and hath closed your eyes:

the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed,
which men deliver to one that is learned,
saying, Read this, I pray thee:
and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned,
saying, Read this, I pray thee:
and he saith, I am not learned.
.

Isaiah 29:9-12
Stay yourselves, and wonder;
cry ye out, and cry:
they are drunken, but not with wine;
they stagger, but not with strong drink.
For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep,
and hath closed your eyes:

When I first read that verse I was like wait, what? When He pours out His Spirit, as in the day of Pentecost, it is to close our eyes and to put us in a deep sleep? So what is this supposed to mean? Why would the Lord pour upon us the spirit of deep sleep? But then I thought upon the story of creation. For Adam was formed from the dust of the ground: But Eve was created within and from Adam. But this creation was done under a deep sleep.

Genesis 2:20-22
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

So it is comforting to realize, that when the Lord causes a deep sleep to fall upon someone, it is for the work of a new creation. For Adam, he was put to sleep so that his help meet could formed, and taken from him. But in Christ, He is our help meet, and He is given to us. In order for His Spirit to be joined unto our own spirit; then as in Adam, that operation is done under the spirit of a deep sleep.

Matthew 26:42-45
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
.

I Thirst.

Matthew 26:38-45
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Something I had never noticed before until just now. Jesus prayed the Father THREE times to let this cup pass, but nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. What was the Father's answer to this prayer of Jesus? Is it found in I thirst?

John 19:28-30
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Matthew 27:34
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Jesus prayed three times to let this cup pass, and it now appears to me that that prayer was answered. For now knowing that all things were accomplished, HE DID NOT DRINK of the CUP. HE tasted thereof, but His prayer was answered, and he did not have to drink of the cup. For as soon as they put the vinegar to his lips, he yielded up the ghost. The cup was passed from him, and as we found out in Psalms 69, the cup was given to His enemies.

.

Matthew 26:45
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest:

Isaiah 29:10
For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep,
and hath closed your eyes:

the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

Isaiah 30:15
For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel;
In returning and rest shall ye be saved;
in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:

and ye would not.

Isaiah 29:11-12
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed,
which men deliver to one that is learned,
saying, Read this, I pray thee:
and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned,
saying, Read this, I pray thee:
and he saith, I am not learned.

There are a couple of points to consider that in this sleep, the vision of ALL is become as the words of a book that IS SEALED. So what becomes of one who consumes the words of the book that is sealed. John gives us a clue.

Revelation 10:7-10
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

The words of the book that is sealed has become the vinegar mixed with gall.

I Thirst...... Those who hunger and thirst after the righteous of Christ by Faith shall be filled, and those who are filled shall never thirst again.
But those who hunger and thirst after the words of the book, to them it is sweet as honey, but in their belly it shall be bitter. And day by day, it shall leave them hungry and thirsting for more. Never stopping to consider why they still thirst.

.

Ezekiel 3:1-6
Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel; Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.

There was another point to consider. If the vision of ALL is become as the words of the book that is sealed, then how are we to learn the truth? Who can possibly teach us? We have one that teaches us, and we need no other. That teacher is the Spirit of Christ who dwells within us. He is the ONLY one who can teach us.

Revelation 5:1-5
And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

2 Corinthians 3:14-16
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

.

Amos 8:11-13
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God,
that I will send a famine in the land,
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,
but of hearing the words of the Lord:

And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east,
they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

The Lord shall send a famine, Not of bread for food or of water for thirst, but a famine for hearing the words of the Lord, and in that day the virgins shall faint from thirst. Because the vision of ALL is become as the words of a book that is sealed. And they shall wander from sea to sea seeking the word of the Lord. They shall seek the word in commentaries, and search for it in devotionals, but they shall not find it.

For in those days, if they had hungered and thirsted after righteousness, then they would have been fill. And the fountains of living water flowing through the well spring from within. A well spring sourced from within can withstand the drought from without. If you still continue to hunger and thirst, then can you honestly say that you have been filled? Do you know if you could withstand the famine? Have you practiced fasting to ready yourself by faith?

If the famine is for hearing the words of the Lord, then how might someone go about practicing that fast?

Jesus said I thirst upon the cross, but the cup he received was not filled with living waters, but was filled with vinegar and gall. You won't find the living waters by looking at the cross.

Matthew 25:1-5
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Isaiah 29:9-12
Stay yourselves, and wonder;
cry ye out, and cry:
they are drunken, but not with wine;
they stagger, but not with strong drink.
For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep,
and hath closed your eyes:
the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.

Matthew 25:6-9
And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

The foolish virgins had no oil for themselves. They were never filled. They claimed things for themselves without understanding, and they continued daily to hunger and thirst thirst for more. And so they look for a new best seller to read, or a new devotional to inspire them. Perhaps they try buy the word by "planting a $1000 seed" (No need, let me save you the $1000. The word is sucker). But they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it.

Matthew 25:10-13
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

.

The wise virgins say no more: I thirst, for they are filled.

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

But the foolish virgins, they still hunger and thirst, for they have set themselves against Zion.

Isaiah 29:7-8
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel,
even all that fight against her
and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth;
but he awaketh, and his soul is empty:
or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh;
but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite:
so shall the multitude of all the nations be,
that fight against mount Zion.
.

That was the belief that I had for a long time, that Jesus drank from the cup of God's indignation. But in the midst of a study I noticed something about the cup as Jesus said the words I Thirst. Now I can no longer find nor can I confirm that Jesus drank the cup of indignation, so if you had any scriptures that actually confirm that, I would appreciate it.
5But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

8...He was cut off out of the land of the living
For the transgression of my people...

10But the LORD was pleased
To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering

(Isaiah 53:5,8,10 NASB)

5But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

8...He was cut off out of the land of the living
For the transgression of my people...

10But the LORD was pleased
To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering

(Isaiah 53:5,8,10 NASB)

Not disagreeing with what is written there. But it does not address the "cup of indignation." The only reference that I know of is in...

Revelation 14:9-10
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

This cup is not one poured out on Jesus.
