Drugs and tatoo parlors. No connection whatsoever.

Three parlors on the grid, three owners have records for selling or using. Maybe it's my bias.

Ihmm.I'm getting a 666. If my body is a mural then where does it stop.you cant ignore the context of what a tattoo was original for and the Maori still do it as did the ais, tequesta, tumucuans, and other dead local tribes ,some listed were canibals.

I don't think I'll ever understand it. What seemed like a sub-culture is now pop-culture. When we go places like the beach or amusement park when it's hot, I'm always shocked by the volume of full back, neck, and arm tats. I would never get one, partly because of the permanence factor.

I'm pretty much old school middle class Mike. No tats, piercings, or whatever. I don't see a problem with other people getting tats, but face piercings kinda weird me out. I don't think I'll ever get used to seeing that.

StoveBolts, you need to get a wider shot. It's hard to make out what I'm looking at.

I just realized what this post said. What do you mean that you're getting a 666?? :eek2

Yeah Mike, face piercings and tongue piercings always throw me for a loop.

I took that pic last night in the garage. Man was it tough to get. I'll find a mirror and get a better shot. Like I said, it tells a story... my story. I didn't get it because it was a fad. I did it to remind me of what is important, what had more weight and to never let the scales tip in the other direction.

Yeah...that's another reason why I am shy about getting one...it hurts.

It's not so bad that you can't take it...but it's gonna hurt going in. I get hurt enough without signing up for extra.

This is one reason why most people get drunk when they get a tattoo.

The other reason? Well, they were drunk, lol

Yup, I have one of those too. It was my 13th birthday and I had just gotten out of Juvenile (short lived). I was a runaway with a 5th of 151 in the company of an ex convict. We melted down some black checkers and mixed it with ashes after removing the bulk of the plastic, then took a string from my sock, wrapped it around a safety pin to hold the ink as well as set the depth of the needle and wha la, a genuine prison tattoo.

No kidding! My head hurt for two days after that!
All joking aside, I'm only telling these stories to brag how great of a God we serve. He transformed Saul, a murderer into Paul. He has transformed me, and continues to transform me. I get the idea God is in the business of transformation. :)

I agree. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Lord has transformed me as well. Although right now I'm transforming into a crazy person and I'm pretty sure that He doesn't have anything to do with that. There must be a full moon out tonight. That's what usually makes me transform. *howls* :lol

Alright,.. now that I have calmed down and I am somewhat back to normal again (there is a full moon out tonight by the way) lol yes, the Lord has transformed me in ways that I didn't even deem possible. I used to be a pretty rotten apple myself but now, I'm hopefully sweeter than honey. :) So yeah I apologize for that crazy spurt earlier :lol

You must not cut your body to show sadness for someone who died or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:28 NCV

Yep, we know the Old Covenant.
The Jews still practice this... well the practicing Jews do.
And that made what happened to the Jews during WWII even more horrid. Every last one of them the Germans captured got a crooked and uneven number tattood on their wrist. By all accounts the tattoo was terrible. The numbers crooked and uneven.
I've seen a few live and in person as a young man. I don't know if there are any left alive today with the tattoo.
*Sigh*
People can be so cruel...kinda hard to imagine.

Let's not forget the prior verse
Jewish version 27You shall not round off the corner of your head, and you shall not destroy the edge of your beard.

Rashi had something interesting to say about verse 28

You shall not make] cuts [in your flesh] for a person [who died]: This was the practice of the Amorites: to make cuts in their flesh when a person [related] to them died.

ושרט לנפש: כן דרכן של אמוריים להיות משרטין בשרם כשמת להם מת:
etch a tattoo: Heb. וּכְתֹבֶת קַעֲקַע, an inscription etched (מְחֻקֶּה) and sunken (שָׁקוּע), never to be erased, for one etches it with a needle, and it remains permanently black.

וכתבת קעקע: כתב המחוקה ושקוע שאינו נמחק לעולם שמקעקעו במחט והוא משחיר לעולם:
etched: Heb. קַעְקַע. Similar to the expression [found in the verses], “and hang (וְהוֹקַע) them” [lit., “and sink them”] (Num. 25:4), and, “and we will hang them (וְהוֹקַעְנוּם) ” [lit., “and we will sink them”] (II Sam. 21:6). They would thrust a pole into the ground, and hang the [guilty people] on it; in this way, [the ones hanged would appear as if] inserted and thrust into the ground [and thus the word קַעְקַע denoting “etched in and sunken” into the skin]; porpoynt in Old French [according to Greenberg, porpoint according to Gukovitzki].

When I got my tattoos, I was young. I'm glad the artist was smart enough to put them above the short sleeve line. He told me I may thank him for it at a later time. He was right.

So, kids swallowing Tide detergent pods doesn't sound all that crazy anymore. Besides your circumstances and lack of guidance, teens' brains haven't fully developed which is why they have poor decision making skills. The sad thing is that there are "adults" who do things like this.

We've told our kids they may not get tattoos while they are under our roof. What they do after that is their decision. Part of our reasoning was to postpone this decision until they are equipped to make a more thought out one.

I don't have any tattoos, and don't want any. Why take the chance? There is nothing to gain.

I also don't judge people who do have tattoos. Although if someone wanted to get a tattoo worshiping an idol or some such, I might try to talk them out of it.

Ha, I remember when our oldest came home at about age 16 with his ear pierced. Yeah, that lasted about 2 minutes before it came out. When our youngest was 17, it took a bit more coaxing to get his out. No, that not true... it got pretty ugly.

I dont recommend young people get tattoos. When I got my professional tattoos, the nationally known artist insisted on keeping it above the sleeve. My tat on the left has a tad hanging below the sleeve line, and the one on my right is invisible unless I'm working.

I'm thankfull...

My son when 19 got his ear pierced. Then a few weeks later got a job at a bank that cared about guys having their ears pierced.

He was upset at himself for wasting the money. LOL

Ha, too funny.
We might as well talk about long hair too. My youngest went prodigal but is now on his return home, praise God!
He doesnt understand why some people treat him badly... he has several "poke and stick" tattoos that are very odd on his forearms...

We like to judge others by their exterior, but we dont understand what it's like to walk a mile in their shoes. Chopper has been praying for our family for years, and God has answered his prayers. Our son has returned.
