Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

... Wow. Today I was given a cool and interesting assignment... I'll be going on a trip out of state in two weeks to fix some trouble at a customer's sites.

Interestingly, the boss is going with me. I'd rather go alone and show him I can handle this... but I don't mind his going along, either.
This never happened, he sent another tech with me. He told me I "wasn't ready..."

This is total baloney, and the man is a fool.

I can't even remember now what got me so angry (there is so much to choose from), but I finallly made up my mind I have had enough. This is ruining my joy AND my career. I am capable of doing so much more, and in fact DID so much more where I worked before.

So I vented to one of the office girls on Monday that my boss is a screwball AND that his (and my) manager is useless. She said, "You have GOT to talk to Mark".
"Mark is our corporate sector V.P., not a guy whose time you want to waste. The man has never said more than "good morning" to me and never engaged me in conversation.

In the area I work, he has wandered thru about every six weeks - we never see him.

Anyway, I took her advice (and intended to walk out after talking to him) - and I went in and asked for some of his time. I then closed the door.

I vented that my boss, in 30 years, thinks less of me and expects less of me than anyone ever. I told him of all the nonsense about me "not being ready" to travel or work alone and that I am told I am not qualified.

He asked many questions, and offered advice, then asked: "Do you want me to get involved?" I asked him to let me give it one more shot.

So, I went to my boss and told him it all, and STARTED with the "you think and expect too little of me, less than ANYONE has in my 30 year career". He seems VERY shocked at this! (He's an engineer, and is clueless).

Well, as of today, I am now told, by him, that I will go next month, alone, while the other tech is on vacation - and will deploy a system myself!!

As a side note, that "office girl" came to me and said, today, "Something is up with Ken" (my boss). He has spoken to no one since tuesday. Which is odd, cause he usually does not speak to me, but has been coming to see me about every two hours!

It looks like the big boss was very angry and had quite a talk with him. I guess paying me what they do, corporate expected me to be DOING MY JOB by the time I'd been there 8 months!

So, it looks like I won this one. But I suspect that , in time, the boss will probably go back to his usual creepy-snotty-condesending crap.

Fine. 'Cause on monday I mailed off a resume, and they interviewed my by phone today for an hour. We have a lot to talk about, but they said that IF there is a deal, I coulid be working for this other company in 2 months, anyway! ;)

And by then, maybe I'll know if I can stand working where I am at.

They asked me what money I want, I gave 'em a number 10% above what I make now - since I got about a 50% raise when I changed jobs, I figure that's good enough for now.

God is good to me, I always know this. I just questions why my sister suffers so.
But I know I am blessed.

Oh, and the VP has now walked thru the production and staging area 3 to 5 times a day, every day this week.
He's keeping his eye on what is going on.

As the pizza world twirls

Be sure and tune in next week!

Will he go

will he stay

Proudly brought to by ....

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Yea, in that office girl, God directed my path.

I had no idea what effect the VP would have, didn't think he'd bother since my manager blew me off months ago. But the VP is in that position for a reason, and apparently reacted without hesitation.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Mark, you made a risky move by going to the VP, but it sounds like it may pay off for you. It's been my observation that this rarely works out, simply because it's much easier for execs to throw the ball back in the mid-level manager's court. Even if it's ineffective, it's simple and doesn't consume their time.

I still wouldn't advise that, but that's probably one of the reasons I'm not making the BIG bucks! Why is it that few managers seem to be held as accountable as the worker bees are? :shrug

Pizzaguy,

Congrats on your gutsy move and I pray it works out well. In an ecomony where so many like myself are having a hard time it is encouraging to see a fellow Christian ask for and get the pay they deserve for the skills they have acquired.

I pray God continues to bless you.

Blessings,
Dee

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Like I said, I rejected the idea of going to the VP at first, but when a lady who has been here 6 years says to do it.... and considering she reports to the VP's "gal friday"... I figured she knew what she was talking about.

And she did. The VP has been out here in the lab up to four times a day all week, he's out here snooping around and keeping his eye on everythign going on.

For the past 8 months, he's been out here ONCE a month, so you see - he's on it.

Addiotionally, my boss has quit speaking to EVERYONE in the office except me.
Looks like he got taken to the woodshed. WIth two BIG projects coming up, his plans to keep me OUT of them has backfired. I was hired to work these jobs, and I guess the VP doesn't want a $35 million sale screwed up!

Thanks all, and stay tuned...........

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Well.......... this fizzed out. I ended up getting no where.

Or so it seemed.

Last thursday, I talked to my Manager (the guy between my boss and the V.P.)
I dumped on him pretty well. Managed to slip in that I'd talked to the V.P. - and there is a rumor the VP has been on this guy about dealing with personnel problems better.

Well, we had a good talk. And my manager said, "Yea, we better sit down, you me and Ken (my boss) when he gets back."

My boss came back from vacation today (two days early). I was SO busy, it was 3pm before I walked into my boss's office. Well, our manager OBVIOUSLY had talked to him. So............ Ken informed me that he has "heard you are unhappy, I do'nt want that".

He went on to inform me that he is changing three major things:

1) I no longer will be asked or required to work in the production department.
2) I will have two employees under me starting monday (temp workers for a 3 month project that starts monday, the project that I was specifically hired for last year)
3) I am named "Project Manager" and "On Site Contact Person" for the big job (this will mean a LOT of flights to Kansas this summer/fall; managing a 33 tower site deployment there; as well as about three months of work back here in Georgia getting ready for this, including leading/training the temps to get the equipment staged; and being involved in the Factory Acceptance Test.)

I have WANTED a lead role in 3) above; and about fell outta my chair when he called the consultant in front of me and made me Project Manager. :o This is an astounding change in Ken.

I worked and worked to get things changed. Kept getting no where, FINALLY prayed last week, "Lord, I think I'm gonna leave the company - please lead in this". And now, THIS happens. Sounds like the Lord wants me here; I guess.

In any event - it sure is interesting.

You must have managed a guffaw.:lol God has given you some pizza.

It seems you have more work to do. Good luck.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Yea, so far, so good.

At least I will get to see Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri this summer/fall.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

IT gets BETTER! FINALLY, my boss sees who he has hired. Our relationship has totally changed and while I can attribute this to the V.P., or to my kicking the anthill, or to my talk with the procuduction supervisor... fact is, it all happened right AFTER I prayed about it, and left it in the Lord's hands.

Oh, and now I am being given yet another project - not official yet, but it looks like I will have a project in Michigan at the same time as the other one. This is gonna be interesting.... :eeeekkk

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Seldom do I pray and leave it with the Lord.

I prayed once, and left it with Him. I also asked for His wisdom in how to deal with it all - and now this.

Like I have said, my prayers always get answered, not always just what I want, but I always get an answer.

Just can't see why my sister does not seem to ... 'Nuff said, but what I am really saying here is that I am thankful for answered prayer and acknowledge that the Lord is still with me after over 3 decades.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

this guy must have thought you were an idiot if he thought you would help him fake an injury so he could get workers comp. He didn't even offer you any money, to help him? lol, what a fool. You would have been a fool to help him, I sense you feel sorry for him because he has no friends, well, it's obvious why he doesn't have any, you were his only friend and he tried to put you in a horrible spot, and didn't even offer you any profit from it.

Of course the upper management is nicer to you know, they hate workers comp claims, the company has to pay him for doing nothing, their insurance goes up, it eats a big hole in their profits. You are safeguarding all of your jobs, by stopping people like that.

You see alot of stupid people, who conspire with one another, to fake things like this, and they don't realize, they will all be out of a job, or they will ship the factory to Mexico or China, where that stuff simply doesn't go on. In China, if you get hurt, they kick you out the door, whether it's the companies fault or not.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

This is why it's sooooooooooooooo important for me to be "prayed up" before I go into my day. If I go into my day without spending time with the Lord...the world attacks like crazy. But with Him...peace. Dive into Christ. Spend time in prayer at His feet, soak in His Glory and Blessings for your day. Walk in His presence and bring His peace wherever you go. Keep you eyes on Jesus.

God Bless you.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

Sounds like some major drama at work, but I'm glad things are getting better and going in your favor. :biggrin
Thanks.

Well, it's official - I fly to Michigan for what will be a week and MIGHT be two weeks. No one knows when, could be this Sunday or could be in a week or more - but it is happening. Im headed to a Nuke Plant, and have to do 3 days of "Haz-Rad" training, submit to a background investigation and obtain clearance from what I GUESS is the NRC so that I can have access to the whole plant including the control room that they run the reactors from (you know, where Homer Simpson works!)

The entire job has to be complete by the first of the year (oddly, so does my OTHER project). It sounds like I will fly to Michigan at least three times before Thanksgiving.

I asked my manager how on EARTH all this can happen, he said I am now just to determine a plan of action for my other project, document it all - and they will hire techs from our dealers to fly to Atlanta and work under my direction for a few days, then they continue and complete it in my absence. That way, I can split myself between the two projects. Ooooooooooooookay. What could possibly go wrong here?

The boss said, "Don't worry, we do stuff like this all the time. It works, you just might find yourself on a plane four times within a week as you chase little fires in three states".

No WONDER airlines like business customers, we buy our ticket a day or two before we fly! You would not believe what the tickets cost when you do that - and there is no "business discount" like when there is a death in a family.

Re: MAJOR blow up at work !!!!

I had an interview today... lasted five hours including lunch - anyone here had a five hour interview?

I met with the director of engineering for a competitive dealer. He is now setting up a meeting with me, himself and their management team, so I have passed HIS tests.

He is getting ready to retire and is working with his employer to provide a replacement. Most of his replacement will be a guy they are going to promote, but that means a job opening right there. So, enter ME!

You never know... I thought I was stuck where I am, but you just never know...
