I certainly do not understand the Trinity either, but greater minds than mine believe it so I accept it. The main confusion that I've seen tends to be around the fact of Jesus praying. Was he praying to himself? That's unlikely. The best suggestion on this thread seems to be that there are...
Thanks for the replies and places to look. I'm sorry but I don't even know how to reply to the suggestion that I'm "looking to be indoctrinated by men"! That's just weird.... I'm not "looking to be indoctrinated" by anyone, just want to draw from the well of experienced and wise folks who may...
Hello. I am looking for an online source of bible studies, the one-off kind for a home group. There are three of us leaders and we can each choose our own subject, so having a deep, ongoing subject wouldn't work because we each lead only once every six weeks. Perhaps bible "study" (in-depth)...
I cannot believe that God or the Holy Spirit would tell you to hurt another human being. Sin is sin and Jesus said to confess our sins to Him, then let it go. He will deal with it. If it stays on your mind, you probably have not confessed it to Him but you are holding on to it.
Back to the original question about keeping faith..... I once heard Terry Waite speak at a W.I. conference. He had been kept chained to a radiator (or other various restrictions) in Beirut for about five years before suddenly being set free. Someone in the audience asked him if his ordeal had...
While I wholly accept the Trinity, since greater minds than mine have worked this out, I still struggle with the fact that Jesus prayed to God to "take this cup" and release him from the coming crucifixion. So if Jesus is God, to whom did he pray? And why did he say the Holy Spirit would come...
I have both of those and can second that recommendation. The books are clear, practical, and well-written. I can also recommend that you use a good study Bible. That means one with notes, cross-references, maps, and more. And also, use more than one translation. My go-to translations are the ESV...
Thanks for all the replies. They were very helpful. I'm still confused about the exact nature of Jesus when he was on earth. I know he was fully man, so he did have flesh and bones and blood, as well as making footprints and casting a shadow on a sunny day. But if he was fully man for the...
Was he trying to read the KJV? Maybe get him a more modern translation like the ESV, NIV, NLT. I've noticed that most churches/pastors are now using those versions. It's just a thought that might help.
Hello, we're going to discuss the Holy Spirit tomorrow in our home group. I have a couple questions that one of our newer members has asked: Matthew 1:18 - I have checked my NIV, ESV, and NLT and it's similar in all, but the study notes do not mention this bit. Where it says "Mary...became...
The question came up in our home group in response to reading Romans 2, where Paul was explaining about Judgement Day. The basic question is what kind of judgement is it, if our sins are forgiven and -- according to Psalm 103 -- wiped away? I'm not exactly sure myself, but I think that it's...
Hi, I’m looking for a verse and can’t seem to find it. It’s something about the Lord will forget our sins as “far as the east is from the west” if we confess and repent — or something to that effect. I’ve tried searching on “east” and “west” with no success. Can anyone help please/
Be very careful about taking things out of context...especially in the Old Testament. You really need to understand whether something was said to a particular situation for a particular time, or whether it was said to generations to come. Case in point: you often see wall plaques, key chains...
