Our three month old cat was attacked by a pit bull today. Yesterday this same dog attacked and killed my husbands aunt's 17 year old cat, today it was our cat. Ordinarily our cat is very loving and really playful and active. But after we got him away from the dog, all he would do is lay on the floor, breathing really fast. He wouldn't eat or drink. Then he started throwing up, but he didn't seem to be physically hurt and there were no breaks in his skin or anything. We thought he would get over it in an hour or so, but then my husband found this lump on his side so we decided we should take him to the vet. Of course no vet's offices were opened in this stupid town so we had to take him the emergency place which was an hour away. My husband had typed up a document stating that the dog owner would be responsible for any and all vet bills, which the dog owner signed. The veterinarian said the cat was in shock and that the lump was a large hematoma. The starting estimate was $579.50. They refused to administer any treatment whatsoever without half the payment up front and the other half paid when we picked the cat up tomorrow. We didn't have it, and we knew the dog owner didn't have it. Yes, it's his dog and his responsibility but we didn't want to put him in financial ruin over it. We asked the dr. if we should put him down or if he had a chance of recovering if we just took him home. To make a long story short (I know, too late), we too him home and we're trying to nurse him back to health. Please just keep this sweet little cat in your prayers. We really love him.
