I found a good article on gluttony

Gluttony seems to be a sin that Christians like to ignore. We are often quick to label smoking and drinking as sins, but for some reason gluttony is accepted or at least tolerated. Many of the arguments used against smoking and drinking, such as health and addiction, apply equally to overeating. Many believers would not even consider having a glass of wine or smoking a cigarette but have no qualms about gorging themselves at the dinner table. This should not be!

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.†Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.†Proverbs 23:2 proclaims, “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.â€

Physical appetites are an analogy of our ability to control ourselves. If we are unable to control our eating habits, we are probably also unable to control other habits, such as those of the mind (lust, covetousness, anger) and unable to keep our mouths from gossip or strife. We are not to let our appetites control us, but we are to have control over our appetites. (See Deuteronomy 21:20, Proverbs 23:2, 2 Peter 1:5-7, 2 Timothy 3:1-9, and 2 Corinthians 10:5.) The ability to say “no†to anything in excess—self-control—is one of the fruits of the Spirit common to all believers (Galatians 5:22).

God has blessed us by filling the earth with foods that are delicious, nutritious, and pleasurable. We should honor God's creation by enjoying these foods and by eating them in appropriate quantities. God calls us to control our appetites, rather than allowing them to control us.

another one...

While nothing in the Bible specifically addresses obesity and weight loss, there is much in God’s Word about the importance of taking care of our bodies and our health, as well as commandments against gluttony. In the Old Testament we read of God’s specific warnings and instructions about what His people, the Israelites, were to eat (Deuteronomy 14:1-21). Most of these were commands God gave them in order to keep them from eating harmful foods that would impact their overall health in a negative way. Some of the commands were given so they wouldn’t imitate the diet and habits of the idolatrous people around them.

Gluttony, overeating or drinking to excess, is mentioned in the Bible as being something to avoid (Proverbs 23:20-21). Gluttony can lead to health risks and become a drain on our finances, and the love of food and drink can all too easily become an idol in our lives. Anything that takes the place of God or becomes our number-one focus is, by definition, an idol and thus a sin against God (Exodus 21:3-6). Proverbs 23:2 exhorts us to “put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony,†an admonition to restrain our appetites.

In the New Testament, Paul tells followers of Jesus Christ that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and as such we are to take care of our bodies and keep them as healthy as we can. Since being obese leads to multiple health risks, we need to realize that as much as it is up to us in our choice and amount of food, drink, and exercise, we should strive to avoid becoming overweight.

A down side of this subject of obesity and weight loss is when we take it to the opposite extreme and become obsessed with our body image. Again, when something becomes the major focus of life and it isn’t God, it is sin. So to constantly obsess about exercise, diet, and weight loss means we’ve allowed our bodies to become the center of our lives. While the effects can be better for our health than being gluttonous and overweight, the result is still the same—our bodies have become an idol in our lives. An obsession with weight loss can easily tip over into anorexia or bulimia which also has a negative impact on our health.

The bottom line is that the Lord wants His children to take excellent care of their bodies since they are the residence of the Holy Spirit. A strong, healthy body helps us stay in shape so we can better serve God each day and thus bring glory and honor to Him, our principal reason for living. The Lord wants us to keep our focus on Him and not fall into obsessing about weight gain, weight loss, or food and drink, any of which can become an idol in our lives.

The best way to "promote weight loss" is to eat what they call kosher. Stay away from forbidden foods and what man has modified by processing and the weight will take care of itself.

The problem I have with some Christian programs to lose weight and "taking care of the temple of the Holy Spirit" is they offer basically the same health advice the main medical establishment gives today to stay healthy. And if you hear me gripe over on the health forum, most of it is tripe that is really killing us instead of making us healthy.

No, you are not blaspheming the Holy Spirit if your cholesterol is too high, your blood pressure is a tad off, or if you salted your food today as none of that makes anyone unhealthy. You are desecrating your temple more by believing bogus health advice by doing lame-brained things like taking the skin off the chicken or separating the yolks of the eggs from the albumen all in the name of health, and other such suggestions. It's Baalism and other religions mixed with Yahweh, and He does not like that.

There are sound biblical reasons for eating kosher, metabolically and scientifically (worldly)and physiologically, not to mention "if you knew what was in it you would throw up!".

the town of Marshall ,tx is having an unexpected 'spiritual' revival (not in the news) as a result of their dietary revival, and people are losing weight, going off their blood pressure and heart and diabetic/blood sugar medicines WHILE under a doctor's care - just by changing their diet. It's been nationwide news for years now,

and other cities are calling the mayor and others to come to their cities to set up a similar dietary program(natural foods approach).

it works!
