Can a person be born again and not bear the "Christian" label? In other words, can we be saved and not be a Christian? Do labels matter? What is Biblical?

The reason I am asking this is because I believe there may be many who call themselves Christians who aren't really saved. A lot of people claim to be a Christian yet produce bad fruits. Aren't Christians supposed to bear good fruit?
