The legal system should be affordable for the majority.
it,s not have you priced lawyers lately ? been several years ago our son got a ticket from a accident following to close. he went plead guilty pay fine no big deal.. then the judge looked at P.A asked him.the P.A replied this could have jail time... serious a young man no record good driving record... he with drew his plea we gave a lawyer $500.00 he made a phone call our son paid the fine .the ticket was kept off his record . the lawyer stood by him in court maybe 10 minutes.. they say say white collared crimes like muller is doing attorneys get like ten thousand dollars a hour .. give me 40 hours i be happy

imo some court sentences should be till the die or the health breaks and they can no longer be a threat to society. i have family member murdered . 3 men involved each one given 3 consecutive life sentences 1 is dead 1 is out 1 still remains. the ring leader.. your never going to understand a court sentence . i have seen drug sentences longer than murder

Oh and by the way, I forgot to mention my condolences. That's terrible, completely awful! :sad

Alright, so where in the world do they come up with a ranominal number like 147 years, or three hundred years or something? And besides, if a conviction is overturned and they are found innocent for the crime that they were originally convicted of, doesn't that mean they wouldn't have any more time to serve anyway?
Suppose I'm convicted of three counts of murder. Then suppose one was a lesser crime such as manslaughter or 1st degree murder while the other two were 2nd or 3rd degree. Each of these convictions will come with different sentences and they will be added together and I suspect possibly successive so they are not being served simultaneously. In other words, I may have to serve the penalty for each sentence in succession so the total years imprisonment could be the sum of all three convictions.

Bail only allows you to be released while waiting for trial. Bail does not get applied to the punishment related to the crime.

Oh okay, both of those statements make sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Depending on the crimes, and the judge, you could serve the time concurrently ( each year counts toward each sentance) or consecutive which means you serve an entire sentance before the next sentance starts.
Example. You get a 20 and a 10.
Concurrent would be 20 and the other 30.

How does paying attorney higher fees keep you out of prison?
lol alan jackson wrote a song top hit here in the real world... evidently you have not noticed court cases .. you dont get out of jail free with a state public defender . fed cases are hard to beat .but if your willing pay the $$$$ it is possible.. you ask how paying higher fees keep you out of prison. ask o.j Simpson on his murder trial ..that how it works.. there are humteen loop holes .the more you pay your lawyer the more he will discover the loop holes

once again a good lawyer that cost you major $$$$$ most it lays in the hands of the prosecuting attorney . if the lawyer can find a opps he will reduce . here is how the system works.. a good friend of mine was murdered cold blood by his step dad shot him 8 times with a 22 rifle 3 in the shoulder 5 point blank range in the back.. the sentence 2nd degree murder 10 years . done maybe 5 if that.
one ask how that happen his mom told the newspaper frank was scared of him and his brother. loop hole... of course months before him and his brother went to there mom house. thumped on step dad for beating their mom . kenny had his 8 year old son on his lap playing checkers with the step dad drinking beer. kenny was a alcoholic dulled his senses.. years before that i seen kenny walk a guy out the bar door guns pointed at him.. they wanted to shoot the the guy that was walked out the door.. that is how our legal system works a big mystery . i have seen probation for a wife who hired to have her husband killed while on a tractor .. i trust lawyers about as far as i can hip toss a 300 lb man..

Like I said I'm really sorry. That's horrible!

Most of it is that marijuana is medicinal and would wreak havoc on the medical industry's profits. The pharmacological industry is one of the biggest industry's on earth. They sort of own the government there's so much money in it.

Amazing how the establishment arrests people for possesion of marijuana when the establishment itself holds a patent on marijuana for the great medicinal value cannabinoids have.

The establishment loves weed because it has a patent on cannabinoids.

I don't think that you can get a patent on a plant. Maybe on a processed version like CBD oils though?
They already make so much money on it! They sell it, they arrest people for it and make money there, now their building a toll tunnel, er I mean wall, lol at the Mexican border so they can get a cut of that, lol!

I think your right. What they do is engineer a plant then patent it. Like Big corporations who own just about every seed on the face of the earth because every crop seed for food has been engineered to the point no natural seed remains and they own it all. Every fruit and vegeatable is engineered from the original. No natural crop is grown anymore thats why there are so many variaties of everything and these corps are filthy rich.

as much as I appreciate what capitalism has done for humanity, as a whole (longer lifespans, less crushing poverty, etc.), one of the flaws of capitalism is that wealth flows upwards, barring -serious- gov't intervention. that's why inequality is out of control in the US. its not good elsewhere, either, but its not as bad as in the US, because a lot of places still have social programs and shared ideology that requires them to at least throw the 99% some table scraps, regulate big business a bit, etc.

I"m not a socialist or communist, but...I do wonder if maybe all this out of control inequality is going to bring about more chaos and destruction, over the long haul.

We don't actually have capitalism here anymore. Bank central planning of the economy has replaced it. Capitalism needs the free market to set prices for capital to be allocated efficiently. Capitalism also needs adequate competition to motivate capitalists to continue improving their production process.
