can't figure out how to access voicemail on cordless home phone

I did a Google search and read something hitting talk to get to voicemail, and putting in your voicemail number. But, that didn't work. We didn't have a voicemail number set up. I tried setting one up (not sure I did it right), but that didn't work either.
So it says I have a voicemail message, but I can't access it.

The brand of the phone is vtech.

Vtech is only supplying a speed dial storage.
you must dial the voice mail number given you by the phone company then Hold down the "mem" key untill you see
"program location" that location; then choose where to store the number; it can be 01.
the just hit 01 to call ( speeddial) voicemail.
