I just found out that the catholic ten commandments leave out:
Exo 20:3-6 UKJV

(3) You shall have no other gods before me.
(4) You shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
(5) You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
(6) And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Here are the catholic ten
10 Commandments of God Catholic Version

I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember to keep holy the Lord's day
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
You shall not covet you neighbor's goods.

Why would they do this?

My guess would be because IF they believe that they wrote the bible.. then why not believe that they can edit it to suit their dogma..?

If you add the commandment about idolotry, you end up with 11 commandments, but the Bible clearly states that there are only 10.

And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. (Ex. 34:28 KJV)

Have you ever counted the ten commandments? Most people haven't, but just assume that there are ten, because that's what everybody says. Let's count how many times we can find "thou shalt", "thou shalt not" or something else indicating a command.

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
  3. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
  4. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
  5. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  6. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
  7. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
  8. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
  9. Thou shalt not kill.
  10. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  11. Thou shalt not steal.
  12. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
  13. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house,
  14. thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

That's 14 commandments, not 10. So, how do we get "the ten commandments" out of what is obviously 14? It's simple. Some of those commandments obviously belong together. For example, the commandments to remember the Sabbath, work on 6 days of the week and to rest on the seventh day are all combined into one commandment. Likewise, the commandments about coveting are combined into one. Catholics haven't left anything out, they have simply combined the commandments to not have other gods and to not make or worship idols, which obviously belong together, just like the commandments about the Sabbath and coveting. But wait... There's a problem. If you combine all those, you end up with...

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  2. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain
  3. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  4. Honour thy father and thy mother
  5. Thou shalt not kill.
  6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  7. Thou shalt not steal.
  8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
  9. Thou shalt not covet

That's only 9 commandments, but the Bible says there are 10. What do we do now? Usually, people solve this problem by dividing up one of the commandments that has more than one part. Catholics divide the last one in two, while some (but not all) Protestants divide the first one in two parts. But there is another solution. Both Protestants and Catholics leave out a commandment, but it's neither the second nor the tenth, but the first. It goes like this:

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. (Ex. 20:2 KJV)

Well, the don't actually leave it out, they combine it with the second commandment. "I am YHWH your elohim" has always been considered the first commandment by Jews and they are, after all, the ones that first recieved the commandments directly from God, so I follow their numbering.

But, someone might say, "I am the Lord your God" isn't a commandment. It doesn't tell us to do anything." It's usually understood as commanding us to believe in YHWH.

Here's how I've understood them to be.

1. “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.â€

2. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

3. “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name."

4. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."

5. “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you."

6. “You shall not murder."

7. “You shall not commit adultery."

8. “You shall not steal."

9. “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor."

10. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.â€

Where did you learn this?

As far as I know, the Catholics observe the same ten commandments the rest of us observe.

The Catholics have the same 10 commandments that I do as a Baptist, and the same 10 that you do in whatever denomination it is that you belong to.

I am not intending to bear false witness. Because it is not written they are asking us to assume or think that we will know that's what it means. Why didn't they write it as it is in the bible? Isn't it their tradition to pray to dead saints that can't do anything for them? There is only one mediator between man and God. When it isn't written as it is in the bible, and I see them praying to St. Jude, St. Christopher, etc; It makes me wonder.
