Does the devil take permission from God before doing anything...or does he just work on free will?

I think there are certain things the devil isn't allowed to do, but for the most part, he can do as he pleases.

God allows Satan a certain amount of freedom Job 1:12.Although it is Satan's choice to attack God's children 1 Peter5:8.The Bible does not say that Satan needs permission to attack us.Luke 22:31-32 says there are boundaries and rules Satan must abide by.Satan hates authority.

Satan's greatest weapon is 'lies'; he is the victor in many situations due to people falling for his trickery.
I don't believe Satan possesses complete free, however he is the master of lies who could sidestep our path of God.
Our faith will sustain us and our belief in God will be another nail in Satan's coffin.
