For most people, IS 11 is the one prophecy that can be cited as being fulfilled in our time.
Namely that Israelis would return to Palestine.

A close look at the rest of the chapter will reveal that this is only half of the story.
The chapter also states that the Lord will raise a banner unto the nations.

Gen 10 is the first time that nations, both friendly and hostile are mentioned, many of which are mentioned throughout scripture to include the end times scenario.
As mentioned before, Dt 7 is where for the first time that in the end times there will be seven nations hostile to Israel.

Now, how will this affect Israel in the end times?
The importance of the establishment of the modern state of Israel is the mechanism used, while it wasn't named as of yet, the concept would become known as the right to self determination.
It would become a factor in the late '40s, it has become a defining aspect of the modern United Nations.

The implication is that of making it possible for the return of many ancient groups to their ancestral homelands;
Askenazi
Sephardi
Falasha
Lemba
Armenians
Gypsies
The many nations formed after the collapse of the USSR.
The genocide commited in the former Yugoslavia.

This new phenomenon is a reversal of historic process.
The last 500 years had been that of creating nations out of many smaller states.
The right to self determination is the mechanism that will make possible the creation of many smaller states and will in the process over many generations make it possible for the nations included in the end-times scenario to be present, and will make it possible for the judgments contained in the last chapters of Jeremiah to take place.

How does this affect our view of scripture?
It shows that besides defining the introduction of key biblical concepts, their confirmation, added details that define them, and their full-fledged manifestation in Revelations, there is the need for the use of biblical and prophetic process in order to understand how the given concepts grow and are understood from their beginnings in the Old Testament through Revelations.

Being that the concepts described in Revelations have their origin in the Old Testament, these same concepts present a challenge previously unseen, the importance of dealing with prophetic precedent as having a greater importance than the added detail revealed throughout scripture.

In other words, if you can't explain the precedent that introduces a given concept, you won't ever be able to explain anything that comes after.

This goes beyond the endless indexing and cataloging that is standard fare in formal theological productions, it makes one commit to an interpretation as it applies through scripture.

It forces one's self to abandon the mostly institutional practice of adopting a continuosly non-commital stance toward the interpretation of scripture.

It makes it possible to ignore the many numeric formulas that in their character as confirmation by detail were never meant to be the ends but the means to confirm prophetic details as they provide the means to follow prophecy to its fulfillment.

It makes it possible for believers to visualize the bible as preachers, teachers, and prophets are able to, in this case, one deals with concepts, and one learns to avoid details that don't contribute toward understanding any given biblical concept.

It makes the Bible user-friendly in the sense that by dealing with concepts, the sermons become shorter, the bible studies are bearable, the world-view and collective theology that each local church can now confidently adopt are now within reach.
