great question - got me reading and prayingAnd do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
Acts 7:2-3
Joshua 24:2-3
yes - negative situations do affect our perspectiveWhen I went to private school everyone had to stand when a teacher entered the room and refer to them as Sir or face a penalty.
Its the one word I cannot stand being called even if people are just being polite if I am a customer. Lol. No Sir.

Matthew 23:1-12 is the context
Jesus is talking about religious leaders who are not true religious leaders - they love to be honored and held in higher regard than everyone else
so it seems that these disingenuous leaders loved to be called rabbi - teacher - father - etc
Jesus was addressing this specific situation and not the general use "father" to address our dads or our ancestors - which is what Acts 7:2-3 and Joshua 24:2-3 is about
and if you think about it - if anyone who is not your father wants you to call them father what is that all about? - they want you to give them a position of authority and allegiance in your life that they probably don't deserve
true leaders don't need to fabricate a position over you with a title - their Godly behavior will cause you to trust and honor them - and all without a title
interesting that you should say that - i call my father dad or daddyTruthFrees is right but scripture says no one. So I call my dad. Dad and no one gets called Father....just in case!
interesting that you should say that - i call my father dad or daddy
i guess that is what i hear other people calling their dads too
i never thought about it until you made this statement
wow - never thought of that - Jeremiah 1:5 - God knew us before the wombI thought about it too, and scripture says, I knew you before you were in the womb...
So we were already alive and with our Father. Our real Father. So I can understand why He would only want us to call Him Father.
(I have a speculation that we probably chose, or at least agreed to be born on earth into our specific family and circumstances. The Lord is cool like that...
But that's prolly a whole nother thread lol)
wow - never thought of that - Jeremiah 1:5 - God knew us before the womb
i wonder what that means
that is for sure a whole separate topic
It makes sense if you read it in context rather than a few words from the passage. And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

Most the teachers I had were acturally alright.
amen - i think this alsoSame here.
Well, I could be wrong, but I've always interpreted it to mean that the Lord already had a plan for us and knew everything about us before we were even born and what we were going to be like. Of course that's just my take on it.
Could you elaborate, please? Thanks. It makes sense if you read it in context rather than a few words from the passage.
