I was just listening to a sermon a few minutes ago and it was about the passage in Matthew 5:4. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." With the post that I posted about my addiction to porn titled "Does this line up with the bible?", would that be considered mourning? I feel like it is because in Roman 6:23, it says "For wages of sin is death...". Death was having a relationship with God.

I look forward to everyone's response and thanks in advance.

Death was having a relationship with God.

no death is Not having a relationship with God.

Mourning is the process of expressing ones sorrow over the loss of something good. We do not mourn the loss of sin.

The problem with our habits of sinning is that God does provide us with away to avoid/escape from that sin in that moment, but we do not take that option and so commit sin.

but doesn't sin create a space between God and us?

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. 2 Cor 7:10

When God makes you feel sorry enough to turn to him and be saved, you don't have anything to feel bad about. But when this world makes you feel sorry, it can cause your death.

The Matthew 5:4 you are quoting. "mourning means fasting" which means you make losses to things that is very dear to you because you want to get close to God.

David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. 2 Sam 12:16

Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“Return to Me with all your heart,
And with fasting, weeping and mourning;
Joel 2:12

Matthew 5:4 says those who fast and pray are blessed for they surely will be comforted.

Read 2 Sam 1:12, you may fast or mourn for spiritual gift, deliverance, spiritual growth even for God's blessings or for someone to be saved or for someone who was gone but when you do so. You are doing unto God so that He may comfort you from heaven.

Did you see that this is one of the best activity that make one to be attuned in the Spirit with God as the comforter from heaven (the Holy Spirit) gives you comfort from above.

Jesus said Matthew 17:21 that casting out genetic sickness/demon can be done by fasting (mourning) and praying.

However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
