There's a dish called paella.
It's a Spanish/Italian dish. It contains saffron rice, chicken, seafood, vegetables and then it varies after this.
Italian sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, marinara sauce, eggplant and pork/lamb are all variables that can be added or not.

Low grade saffron threads runs around $90 per ounce.
I found some clipped saffron threads (highest quality) for $45 for 1/2 ounce.
(It just arrived by mail)
The whole dish is complicated and time consuming. But it has a flavor and taste that nothing else can compare to.

Anyone else have expensive (time and money) tastes like this?

And lately wood lathes have been catching my eye.

Yep, I paid an outrageous amount of money to go hunt an elk in Colorado this year. I could buy beef for a lot less. But you got me beat with $90 per ounce - unless I do not get one, then my cost per ounce is way over $90. :)

We have some of those 'discount' stores that sell damaged/out of date/discontinued items. I've seen saffron before, I did not know it was that expensive. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Good Saffron is as expensive as marijuana.

Ground saffron is usually the leftover after making good saffron.
It's primarily grown and harvested and processed in Iran.

Clipped means that the lighter portion of the stamen is removed. Unclipped usually sells for what I paid.

Paella is one of those learn to love dishes...

Where is wondering ?
She needs to get in on this.
