I prefer all the EA sports games over rival brands. I've tried sports games by Sega, Acclaim, and others but just don't like them.
A lot of times you can get games used at either a store like EB games or Blockbuster video without bying them full price.
Besides those, I'd recommend:
1. Ace Combat 4 (which is now a Greatest Hits $19.99)
2. Need for Speed 2
3. Medal of Honor Frontline (excellent game and it doesn't show blood)
4. GTA 3 and Vice City (may be qestionable but they are excellent games two of my favorite non-sports games)
Tiger Woods 2003 is the best game for the entire system in my opinion. My wife is a casual golf fan but we find outselves playing it most--staying up late sometimes to play an extra 18 (we have no life obviously). I didn't like the game on the PC because it was too easy but on the PS2 you earn money with each round won, hole in one, green in regulation and you can upgrade your golfer by spending money.
ATV Off-Road Fury rocks
EA Sports March Madness (I've got 2002) also rocks. It's your standard basketball, not many frills, but it's a great basketball game in my opinion--the critics' reviews were mixed on it though.
Stay away from 989 hockey games--rented a couple and they were awful
id reccomend final fantasy x. great gme...turn based game and has a great line of characters and a great story..end is kinda sad but once u beat it u can buy final fantasy x2!
Yeah, I love Nascar so I'd definitely recommend it. If you aren't into to Nascar all that much I'd recommend renting it first because you need to know a little bit about car setups to run fast. Its not hard to learn if you don't know, it just takes a little time practicing and trying different setups.
My two latest games are SSX3 (just been re-released at half price) which is a great snowboarding game, and Fight Night 2004 which has to be the best boxing game ever.
