Ya... I believed in Santa, however I ruined it for me and my sister when I was 4 or so asking if Santa was real. My sister was pretty upset lol. Anyways, I find it kind of interesting the similarities of Santa and Christ. He knows what you've done good, bad, when your sleeping or awake, he is jolly lol idk. But I want to hear your opinions, do you think Santa takes from Christ? Or is harmless and makes Christmas better?
I believe Santa can go either way really. Though, more recently, he has begun to detract from the holiday. To some extent, I believe it could also be because of the direction our culture is going in, but I wouldn’t completely rule out Santa. Everything now is more about getting presents than celebrating Christ. Most kids don’t even think about Jesus around Christmas anymore, unless you have come from a very religious household. However, there are many connotations with Santa and Christmas. In all the movies about Christmas I see, there is a Santa, or it is about Santa. There is so much focus on Santa and giving presents. In many movies, if there aren’t any presents, it’s as if Christmas is ruined. And that’s not what Christmas is about. Santa really wouldn’t be so bad, if not for what he is being used for now. He is a marketing ploy, basically. My Uncle Robert makes parodies of a lot of Christmas songs about Santa. And in one lyric, he says, “God replaced by a marketing ploy.†Unfortunately, I see this becoming all too true.
It makes me sad because Christmas should have Christ in it, and nowadays Him being in it is really minimal. Not only that, but Saint Nicholas, who was an incredible man, is being almost made a mockery of at this point. Santa, on his own, could be fine. It could be used to help teach children morals, or how to behave. To be nice, etc. However, now he’s just a guy that gives kids presents on some holiday in December. I personally think Saint Nicholas, a man who struck another for insulting Christ, would not appreciate what his figure is being used for.
Basically, i have nothing against Saint Nicholas, just what he has been turned into today.
