First we see that Jesus spent the whole night praying on a mountain on the night before he preached the Sermon on the Mount. If we're going to preach we need to pray. We need to ask God to give us the Holy Spirit and then groan in the Holy Spirit. This is the only way you're going to pray all night. It's much like the groans and sighs of a woman giving birth to a baby. Oftentimes it takes many hours for a woman to give birth to a baby. We need to pray like this at times and need to continue until we feel relief, until we have "prayed through."
So Jesus probably prayed like this in the Holy Ghost all night. Then he named his twelve disciples. If we are going to make important decisions we need to pray a lot about them. Then Jesus started his Sermon on the Mount with the Beatitudes. Someone said Jesus turned everything upside down. He said "Blessed are ye poor." Most people think we're blessed when we're rich. Jesus said that it's almost impossible for the rich to end up in heaven. They must be willing to give to the poor when they're asked, and for whatever reason hardly any of them are willing to do this, including those who claim to be Christians.

Upside down. It seems to me that Jesus Christ cares about poor people. The losers of this world. Those who are sad and depressed. Those being persecuted and oppressed. It seems he is not too happy with most of the rich. Those who are full now, eating sumptuously every day. We're supposed to fast at times. Go without food. We're supposed to practice self denial.
