Re: Should a Christian act like a "know it all"?
Dave, I used to be on this forum quite a bit, then because of the wildly insane schedule my family has now, I'm not on as much. But, when I'm on, I always read your posts. They tend to be quirky, thought-provoking and fun. You're a great addition to the board.
Should a Christian act like a "know it all"? You know, I've yet to meet a Christian who actually does "know it all". To act like one does, when one doesn't is simply irritating.
There is a great satirical fairy tale called "Prince Prigio" by Andrew Lang. Prigio actually does know it all, therefore he wasn't only irritating, he was insufferable. After all his adventures in the tale, when he at last learned wisdom as well as knowledge, his wife asked that he would take his wishing cap and wish that he was no cleverer than other people. However, because he did learn wisdom as well as knowledge, what he actually wished for was that he would SEEM no cleverer than other people.
Wise indeed! ;)
Anyway, to quote from a somewhat higher source than Lang, "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do no merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3-4)
Bottom line, one should act with humility, not with pretentiousness.
