I'm not exactly sure about where to put this, but if mods want to move it, they can.

I'm just trying to get serious about my prayer life and really commit to speaking with God and having an intimate relationship with Him.

But when I try to enter into His gates with thanksgiving, I'm not exactly sure what to say. What I need are some prayers to make a base with so I can take bits and pieces, add things, and just word it my way. So if there's any prayers you can find that are about thanksgiving and gratitude, I'd appreciate it.

I highly recommend watching the DVD series (3 DVD's one hour long) made by Rico Cortez called "The Amidah: Protocol of the King." Amidah means "standing prayer" and Rico shows step by step how to enter into the Lord's Presence (with all humility, reverence and awe) and what we are to say to the King of Kings (which is all Scripture, btw.)

Unfortunately, a lot of people go in "claiming" and "demanding" that Jesus do this or that. But is this REALLY a smart way to approach a king? ... especially the KING of KINGS? I humbly submit that it is not.

So get Rico's teaching (if you're Hispanic, he also has it in Spanish) and try to be open-minded about it, because you may be surprised at what you learn!

Going to the words of Scripture itself can be really good in this respect. The Psalms especially contain whole, wide realms of experience and feeling, by which Psalmist and reader are full of praise and thanksgiving.
